Everyone loves this easy pulled pork slow cooker recipe! Turn a slow cooked pork butt into pulled pork that you can use in so many recipes! Only five ingredients and a few minutes of prep time!
Slow Cooker Pulled Pork!
I don't know if you noticed or not, but I've been going back through my old, old, recipes and remaking them. This slow cooked pork butt was originally published in July of 2008! Yes, I have been blogging that long.
The problem with being a food blogger is that you are always trying a new recipe. With all the new recipe trying, not a lot of recipes get repeated and that's a shame.
Especially when it comes to this easy pulled pork recipe! With only five ingredients (and one of them being beer) this pork butt braises all day long in the slow cooker. It becomes so tender, you just shred it with a fork and you have the basis for many, many dinners!
Ingredients to Make Slow Cooked Pork Butt
- Cilantro - if you don't want to use cilantro, you can substitute parsley.
- Garlic.
- Jalapeno Pepper - use as many as you like depending on the level of heat you like.
- Beer - a light pilsner works good for this or you can experiment with a dark beer.
- Pork Roast - I prefer a shoulder or a butt that has a little more fat to keep everything moist, though you can use a pork loin.
- Salt and Pepper (not pictured.)
How to Make this Easy Pulled Pork Slow Cooker Recipe:
This recipe is so crazy easy!
Step one - Place the pork roast in your crock pot. You can brown it first if you'd like, but since this was going to be shredded, I didn't bother.
Step two - Smash the garlic cloves, coarsely chop the cilantro (or leave whole) and cut the jalapeno into fourths and add to the slow cooker.
Step three - Pour over the beer. Generously sprinkle everything with salt and pepper.
Step four - Cook on low for 8-10 hours.
Step five - When finished, remove the pork from the slow cooker and when it's cool enough to handle, shred with 2 forks. Skim the fat off the sauce (or refrigerate and spoon off the fat that solidifies at the top) and pour over the pork to keep it moist.
What to do with Delicious Pulled Pork?
After the pork braises all day in the beer, you are left with the most amazing moist, tender and delicious pork. You can see my big bowl of pulled pork in the first photo!
The first night I made super easy pulled pork tacos. I just placed some pork on a corn tortilla, topped it with some my favorite pickled onions, radishes, cilantro and some crumbly Mexican cheese. Easy and delicious.
The next day I made pulled pork quesadillas, which were even easier than the tacos!
Even after 2 dinners and one lunch, I was able to put two bags of pulled pork in the freezer!

This recipe is our go to for busy weekdays - pulled pork is always a win in tacos for a seamless dinner.

I think the shoulder butt is a little higher up where shoulder meets the back of the animal. Pork shoulder is slightly lower and includes the shoulder and upper arm of animal. Shape of cut is a little different. Meat about the same.

Seth - that sounds wonderful! Really!

I crock pot a pork butt at least once a month. Each time I try something different. Last week I slow cooked in crock pot with apple juice instead of H2O added sweet Thai chili sauce, garlic, Chinese 5 spice, red pepper, sea salt and ginger. Had a sweet and spicy Asian style pulled pork. Great with white rice.

That pork does look good!

Boston Butt is pork shoulder. It is the upper half of the shoulder and the picnic ham is the bottom half of the shoulder.
Awesome job and this looks beautiful. As a fellow smoker I can say many times I am way to freaking lazy to fire up the smoker.

I love the whatever part...makes me laugh...looks good, whatever it is!

i don't know the difference either, but shoulder sounds a bit more appetizing than butt. either way, it's definitely one of my favorite ways to eat pig. 🙂

Should take me about 3 and half hours to get to your house next time you do this! Let me know when it hits hour 6!!!

LOL re the laziness! We just call it "lack of industry."
Yeah, people do not realize that it is actually A LOT OF WORK to stage all that stuff just to cook something!
The pork butt looks great though, lack of industry notwithstanding.

Pork butt + slow cooking = YUM! Your recipe looks great! I've never seen an electric smoker; it sounds interesting. Pork is one meat that my picky eaters will devour, and I use the crockpot often during the fall. This will get added to my list!

It's pork butt day, I see!
I love how moist and flaky the meat gets...can't be beat!

Pork butt, pork shoulder - same thing. I've been cooking a lot of these. Have you tried it with the McCormick Peppercorn Medley ground over it, and roasted at about 300? Absolutely wonderful. I cook those during the fall & winter with baked apples...great stuff!
