Garden Tuesday - Oldies but Goodies

Pots

I don't like perfection. I enjoy the beauty of things worn down.

Terra Cotta Pots

If I have to age and get wrinkles, so do my garden pots. It's only fair. When they get too crumbly, I toss them willy nilly in my flower beds and call it art.

Cool. This is what I do with old and broken crocks. I never thought to do it with terra cotta pots.

In many cases, old things are indeed best. My kids sometimes ask why I don't get rid of some old thing or other, and I'll always say, "Because it has plenty of good life left in it!"

i like them too - they give character :)

They still look great, and they have character! What would be the fun in getting new ones all the time?

I love beautifully worn things, anything with a patina, scratches, marks, and imperfections. I love the beauty of it. AND by keeping what you already have and not throwing it away you are being eco-friendly.

We went to visit a professional potter and ceramic artist and his garden was filled with the art of broken pottery. Just great!

I agree with you 100%. The old and broken pots have a unique character and charm.

Our are all green and mossy because of the damp weather we enjoy in Vancouver.

I love that you've said this. Whenever I have something new that gets a ding or crack I smile and say it's now been personalized. So a ding in the car doesn't worry me. It's been personalized. A small stain on a blouse, it's been personalized. There isn't another one in the world like it and in this cookie cutter society that's nice to know.

Wonderful blog.
