What a pain in the you-know-what.
Yesterday, I was minding mine own business, blog reading, yours and mine. When I decided to finally stop ignoring the little Microsoft Update flashing thingy on my desktop toolbar. I don't know about you, but every time I update with some new security patch or some other sort of upgrade, it's like I do it with my hands held up blocking my face. I peek out, tentatively between my fingers to see what new havoc this latest upgrade has caused.
Well, after yesterday's upgrade, I started getting the "Internet Explorer Cannot Open the Internet Site." Not on every blog, but a good smattering. I could sort of live with that, but then I realized I couldn't look at my blog! My very own, near and dear to me, blog!!
After much, searching and gnashing of teeth. I figured out that it has to do with the way Internet Explorer reads Javascript. The whole deal got very complicated, with scripts with tags outside of bodies or something like that. Much too much for a mere mortal such as I to understand, so I deleted all my Javascript widgets. Bye Bye - Library Thing, Pattern Review, and the Foodie Blogroll. Bingo - problem solved. I plan on adding them back one at time until I figure out which one is the wayward child. Then I plan on trying to figure out what the heck the people are talking about and see if I can fix it.
So if you try to open my blog, and you get that error, try again later, I'm probably just bumbling my way through something.
Oh...and another thing...as long as I'm whining...I also upgraded my Quicken and now I can't pay my bills online anymore. Why...oh why...

Oh dear, frustrating stuff. I ignore the update stuff as long as possible and then do the same you do, peep through my fingers and hope all goes well.
Good luck!
hehe, just left you a comment and then the internetconnection went on strike, so I'm not sure if you've received the comment, but it said something like: I know exactly what you mean. Good luck!
Computers are a wonderful thing, but I've had the same thing happen to me when I've upgraded. It's always a pain figuring out what you have to do to make it right again!
oh dear...oh dear...
this is exactly why I am so chicken to try anything new...everyone has such cute backgrounds on their blog and I have the original blogger template...I will keep you in my thoughts. ~Natalie
I went through about 2 weeks of that too. I finally downloaded mozilla firefox. I still like i.e. better, and you can have both on your computer I have learned, but I use firefox for a lot of visiting.
The problem has something to do with the followers gadget ( I guess for the reasons you stated), I took mine off altogether, but some people just moved it down. Blogger is aware of the problem, but haven't fixed it yet.
Such a pain!
Hmm I wonder is that was the problem I was having two weeks ago. There were a lot of blogs i couldn't view or comment and a lot of my readers told me to switch to Firefox. I did and it works so much better but I am still getting used to it.
I was having the same problem with different random blogs. I did not know what to either and hate when things change on my computer.
That stuff can drive you crazy, can't it? I guess that kind of thing is one of the reasons I switched to a Mac, though there are frustrations on that front too. Good luck with working out the bugs!
I have not updated my Quicken for years! Really. I made that mistake once & swore, and then swore I wouldn't do it again!
Lately, I've been kicked off of the internet numerous times a day. Especially from one particular blog. Interesting.
Things like that always happen to me, so I try to get help from my technologically savvy hubby. But I don't think he believes that something is wrong with my computer; all he has to do is look at it and it goes right back to working. Maybe we should try to bottle that skill.
Oh No!! Sometimes upgrading creates more problems than it is worth! Hope everything gets back to normal!!
Aren't computers the pits? Too bad we love them so much! I have had that problem here and there and found that by going into Norton, unclicking "enable firewall" it works. Other option would be going into tools.. sounds as though you did and solved your problem. Never mind, there will be another soon- there always is. Cripes.
We understand your frustration! Download Firefox and see how you like it. We find it easier and less combative than IE. Thanks for sharing. We love your photos...recipes and especially gardening ideas. Stacy
This is one reason why I use Firefox instead of IE. You can have as many browsers on your computer as you want so you can still use IE if you want to for some reason.
And my kids always laugh at me for refusing to update anything. I always run into problems like this and spend light years fixing them instead of doing what I want!
I've given up on IE for reasons just like this one. Firefox has been more reliable. But here's my comment to let you know that I can see your site today.
Lol... when you said you upgraded your quicken, I thought you said CHICKEN and I thought WTHeck???
I gave up and went to mozilla firefox plus upgraded my Yahoo and all the problems simply disappeared.
I spent hundreds of dollars in geek fees, and I ended up fixing it myself.
The same thing happened to me yesterday. Funny.
Ah, what a great way to spend your day! I leave the computer stuff to my spouse. And my children. My very young children. Who know wayyyyy more about navigating cyber space than their archaic mother! :-)
This has been happening so much for me. i hate Firefox so I'm not to change but it's the widgets huh? Thanks so much for posting this.
My mother always accused me of never being able to leave 'well enough alone'
I do the same thing.... It's a sickness....
Same thing is happening to me. Actually I did a search for it and found your blog... so it's not all a bad thing. Still I'm bummed that I can't view my own blog. Internet Exploder bites.
