An Oath

I, Pam of Sidewalk Shoes,
do solemnly swear,
to buy no more cookbooks,
to help other people at all times,
and to obey the girl scout rules.

Thank you. You may be seated.

no more cookbooks?... I don't think I could do that. This makes me curious as to how many you have though...?

Oh man. You should NEVER put it in writing!!!

Just how many cookbooks do you have. And maybe if you put the ones you want in a wishlist, someone else may buy them for you, then you wold not be breaking your oath! Haha.

Eve and Kat - I have 129. Though, now that I look at that number, it is sort of uneven isn't it? A better number would be 130 or maybe even 150, don't you think so?

Antoinette said...

Wait, what??? 129 cookbooks? Wow.

I have nothing else to say but: WOW.

Pam, wow.

This would definitely be me if we weren't military and moving every 4 years. It's amazing how it becomes easier to get rid of things when the thought of having to move it is staring you in the face. One day though, one day...we'll be staying put and I won't be able to resist the beautiful cookbooks I've refrained from buying these last 10 years.

I say if you've got the room for them, why not! *Just call me an enabler..I'm sorry* :o)

That's a hard hard oath to stick to! Does borrowing them from the library count?

LOL.. well, i admire your determination to stick to that oath. but we won't beat ya with a wet noodle if ya relapse. ;)

have a great week!

I don't know, Pam. Life is short. I can't speak to how you handle the girl scout rules but you do help people when you post from those cookbooks!

***picks up oath and sets it aside*** Hold everything, I've got one more for you before you throw in that "kitchen" towel." It's called Apple Betty and Sloppy Joe: Stirring Up the Past with Family Recipes and Stories. I think you'll like it; it's fun and it's "home-grown"! (Like the authors, I'm from Wisconsin, too.)

only a 129? Aw geeze, I'd definitely aim for 150! :)

Maybe there is a 12 step program out there somewhere???

Is this oath the result of you buying some more cookbooks or being tempted? Haha, I have said that so many times. And then I walk into Borders.

Marjie said...

Give away some which you don't use, and then you can buy more, bercause you won't be3 adding to your sum total. (I'm an enabler.)

did a new purchase cause this oath?

Nancy said...

I have a cookbook fetish, too. But now I just visit you for inspiration!

Well hells bells, I just put together a comment and got an answer, here's a second try!

No more cookbooks? That can't be right! In order to solve this dilemma I have 3 questions to pose:
1. Do you often peruse through your various cookbooks for inspiration?
2. Do you actually make meals from the cookbooks you have?
3. Does your family like the meals?

If you answered 2 of these 3 questions in the affirmative, you're okay to renig on your promise of no new cookbooks! In my ever so humble opinion of course!

blessings!

Antoinette - is that wow-as in "wow, I'm impressed" or wow-as in "wow, you need therapy?"

Girli - what??? lack of confidence in me??

April - enablers are my best friends.

Jacqueline - everytime I borrow from the library, I end up buying, so that doesn't work for me.

Tale - I'm not really all that determined.

Judi - you are my favorite follower...really.

Sparkle - I don't think that legally you can pick up MY oath and set it aside. Though, I do appreciate the effort.

Eve - okay, you and Judi are my top favorites.

Ungourmet - I think I need to start one.

Joanne and Marjie - yep, you figured it out. I may (or may not) have bought two new cookbooks this week.

Nancy - how many do you have? Please make me feel better about myself.

Sweet - okay you are my favorite!

I actually had to reread the post twice--at first I thought you were promising to buy more cookbooks. Good luck with that; my husband has tried to get me to take the same oath.

jo said...

Good luck with that. I personally bought two this week alone. Is their a 12 step program for us?

Donna-FFW said...

Ive taken that solemn vow.. about 7 times now.

Queenie said...

that's just the oath for the day, right? tomorrow you have another oath, right? isn't there a 'daily oath' thing? i think there is. so, you're off the hook in about 9 minutes :)

Mary at My New 30 said...

I need to take that pledge but I know I'd break it within a week's time. I have about 200 - not counting the cook booklets, magazine type, product manuals, etc. I know...

Natashya said...

Ha! I give you a week....
:)
Mine is closer to 300 now... and you should ask Deb what hers is!

doris said...

Yeah, I say that about stitching projects all the time. We won't hold it against you if you decide to violate your oath.

Pam, I have said that about sock yarn, again, and again.. But, what you can do it start garage selling and find the little cookbooks made by school and churches that people put together and then sell.. these have some of the best stuff.. tried and true meals.. And you can get them for like $.50! I have more fun looking through them. Cookbooks that are like a box of Chocolates... Know what I mean?

cantbelieveweate said...

Hey Pam...let me know how this oath of No More works for you. I don't count. I'm afraid to. And I have another on the way.
