Argentine-Syle Burger with Chimichurri Sauce

Argentine-Style Burgers

Please tell me that I am not the only who cannot say Argentine without immediately launching into a "Don't cry for me Argentina" riff?? C'mon admit it. Well, there is nothing to cry over with this burger (pause here to marvel at my ability to segue, sometimes I amaze even myself). This is seriously good stuff. The burger is yummy, but it's the chimichurri sauce that steals the show.

Chimichurri Sauce

Chimichurri sauce is an Argentinian staple, that is used with all kinds of grilled meats. I used it also on a grilled cheese sandwich and it was fabulous! I'm going to share the chimichurri sauce recipe with you, but you can find the burger recipe online here.

Chimichurri Sauce
Makes about 1 cup

1 cup packed flat-leaf parsley leaves (from 1 large bunch)
1 cup packed fresh mint leaves (from 1 large bunch)
1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 cup fresh lime juice (from 1-1/2 limes)
2 Tbs. coarsely chopped garlic (from 4 to 5 medium cloves)
1 tsp. coarsely chopped jalapeño (from 1/4 medium chile)
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. kosher salt; more to taste

Put the parsley, mint, olive oil, lime juice, garlic, jalapeño, cumin, and salt in a food processor. Process, until it forms a thick sauce. Scrape down the sides of the bowl if necessary. Add more salt to taste if needed and refrigerate until ready to use.

This will be my entry for this week's Weekend Herb Blogging hosted by at one of my longtime favorite bloggers, Chris at Mele Cotte.

Never had chimichurri sauce. Argentina is supposed to be a nice place; I think your hubby needs to take you there for burger comparisons. Oh, wait, you don't fly. Maybe a cruise?

Mmm hmm. I would devour this. And it gives me another reason to use my garden mint, parsley, and jalapeno...right before it gets cold and I'm forced to buy them at the market again.

OOH that sounds so good. I've never tasted that but it looks wonderful. I will have to give it a try.

Oh thanks, now I'm going to be singing that song ALL day in my head. I'm bad that way. Well, that and many other ways. Your photos are amazing. I've always wanted to try this sauce ... is it really minty? I'm not a big mint in food fan, although there are some Asian dishes with it that I really like. PS: loved your segue! How's school going? Did I read somewhere that you have an older class this year?

Pam, I adore chimichurri ~ I could drink the stuff!

This looks superb. I like the idea of adding mint to the mix; I'll do it that way next time. Thanks for the inspiration!

This is a beautiful way to use your fresh herbs. I have been wanting to try a chimichurri sauce, but haven't got around to it yet. It's on my list of things. Beautiful picture - looks delicious!

You were supposed to have been important.. that's all I wanted.. not much to ask for....
Yep, it's in my head now.

Your Argentine burger looks great! I love the sauce.

Now, I will get you back -
Some Argentines, without means, do it.
People say in Boston even beans do it.
Let's do it, let's fall in love!

Ditch the garlic and chili, pour me a Fernet-Branca and I am there!

Chimichurri sauce is one of those green sauces that I LOVE. I would have never thought to put it on grilled cheese, though now that you mention it - it's a GREAT idea. Both look delicious.

Gosh, these look good (and I DID break into a chorus of "Don't cry for me Argenteeeeeeeena!"). I seldom buy mint, but I'm making fattoush this weekend, so I'll have the ingredients for chimichurri. I'll bet it would even wake up a Boca burger.
