ah! tent caterpillars! : ( excluding the whole "eating your blueberry leaves" thing, they are actually pretty amazing little creatures that are extremely adept at communicating through pheromones. One of our blueb bushes got annihilated by a rainstorm early in the spring and all the flowers were beat off. So we have a bush with a bunch of leaves but no bluebs.
He's looks so fuzzy. And soft. And cute. More importantly, I'm jealous you have blueberry bushes. We can't keep enough of those bad boys in my house. Bought a bunch from the farmer's market over the weekend, but it's certainly not the same as having them in your own back yard.
Those Caterpillars are being nice to you, Pam... They are saving the Blueberries for YOU.... ha ha (Cannot believe that they'd eat the leaves and not the Blueberries!!!!!! )
Looks like you will get plenty of Blueberries though. Hugs, Betsy
Hilarious. (Sorry.) I'll make it up to you though. Check out this, http://stitchesandseams.blogspot.com/2010/07/giveaway-non-sewing.html, but also - I have a BUNCH of extra real Saffron that I'd love to send you since I know you'll probably actually use it. Email me at djc@cedesign.com to send me your shipping info if you're interested.
Great photo Pam but don't you just hate these little critters. When I was a kid I wouldn't go outside for weeks because of these and yes, they do survive in Canada too. Ewww yuck!
Oh darn! Won't it kill the plant? I don't have any blueberries, but guess I know one of the critters to watch for now if I ever do plant. Trust me. If there's a bug, it will come to MY garden.

Creepy Crawlers, I'd say...
Have a terrific Tuesday. ~Natalie
It's nice to know that someone appreciates unripe fruit. ; D
I've been lucky as to not have any issues yet with my berries and we are getting loads of yummy fruit.
He looks quite happy, you're right!

That's sad.
I am feeling great! Last surgery was done two weeks ago. Have one more, maybe, in October! That could be the last one!
Yes, I noticed that your bushes were devoid of leaves. I hate those fool caterpillars. I'm so glad they haven't been here in the past 2 years.

At least they left you the berries!
I have a lemon tree that looks quite similar to your bush! Little buggers!
Um, so how does a blueberry bush fair with no leaves? I do think catapillars are cute but not when they are eating my fruits and vegies.
At least they're not eating the blueberries! Mmm, blueberries.... :)

Crikey/// that is really sad. Poor old blueberries. spray them with hot pepper and hope for the best!
Hungry little critters aren't they? Hope you get some gorgeous butterflies out of them.

I am so not a catapillar fan-the squirrel took off with my ripe tomato today-I found it in the flowers-with a huge bite.
Your close-up of the caterpillars sent shivers down my spine. And made my legs feel like they had bugs crawling all over :P
But at least you still have berries!
Try spraying with a BT spray (Bacillus Thuringesis sp). Totally organic, won't harm humans, animals or even non-caterpiller insects.
Mine look just like that! I thought it was the thieving rabbits!
I am totally envious of your blueberry bushes but am creeped out by the caterpillars. [Shiver!]
That's pretty much how my Black-Eyed Susans look these days, thanks to the rabbits. Grrrrr.
Well I know "someone" besides me who is glad to see it's Blueberry Month.
Personally, I think he is adorable. Now I really can't wait to get some blueberry bushes!!!
Thanks for sharing, Pam.
