One Little Word ~ 2012

One Little Word

Remember last year, when I told you about the One Little Word idea?

The concept is basically this – instead of making a bunch of New Years Resolutions that depress you and make you feel inadequate, you chose a word.  A word to live your life by for a year.

My word last year was “joy” ~ it was perfect.  I bought 3 joy necklaces, and wore one every day to remind me of my word.  Whenever I would feel myself getting frustrated, I would reach up and touch my necklace and remind myself to find joy.

This year, I was thinking of possibly going back to the old way, the depressing resolutions way.  You know…exercise at least 4 times a week, clean out the garage, eat more beans.  But then it became…well…depressing.  It totally lacked the excitement that I felt last year.

So, while laying (or lying – I hate grammar) awake at 4:54 am one morning, my word came to me.  CREATE.  Create ~ it’s as perfect as Joy was.  Create, as in:  create a happy home, create something for those you love, create a beautiful garden, create a body I’m proud of…see, it’s all positive!

Now, I’m off to Etsy to find what kind of cute CREATE jewelry I can find!

What’s your word?

I LOVE this! I'm sick of berating myself and saying "can't" and "must". i think my word is going to be REJOICE. Rejoice in the healthy delicious food I can eat, rejoice in how good my body feels when I treat it right, rejoice in the fact that I am healthy and alive and capable of so many things. Thanks, Pam!

Ohhhhh, I love joy and create! Leat year my weird was Appreciation. I really tried to appreciate the blessing in life, and show appreciation to other people.

My word this year I believe will be positive. A positive attitude, speak in a positive manner, etc. time to weed out some negative energy!

Thanks for introducing me to this last year, its a great concept that you can honestly stick to all year!

My word this year is "treasure." I'm posting about it tomorrow. Create is a fabulous word. Post pics of the beautiful necklaces you find. It will be exciting to see how you use your word this year. Blessings, SusanD

I think I will take a cue from you. My word this year is going to be joy. I must find it. Yay joy!

Maybe mine would be BREATHE or RELAX. Two things in my 40's I still haven't learn how to do. Oh! Or APPRECIATE. That's it! APPRECIATE. Because I need to appreciate what's around me, instead of always being in such a hurry.

I just discovered your blog and what great timing. I really like your idea of one little word instead of resolutions. Now I have to think of what mine will be.

You're so good at this stuff. Thank you for sharing some of your joy with me this past year. After reading the comments, I like Joanne's REJOICE. I too, will try to rejoice in everything. I also like Create. I firmly believe we all have the desire to create and make things from the One who created us. Happy New Year, Pam.

I love the idea of finding etsy jewelry tied to "the word".
Last year's word was healthy. I think I might repeat it again for this year. :)

What a wonderful idea! I just love it! Like Joanne, I am also tired of berating myself, especially as I approach my 60's and realize that I just can't do what I did 30 years ago and still try! I'm loving "simplify" as I continue to de-clutter my life from last January. And that is one resolution that I never failed at. It feels so great and emancipating to let go of all the STUFF! Even my husband is into it with me!

Such a great inspiration to all of us. I think I'll use "dance", as in dance like there's no one watching. It'll be my signal whenever I'm thinking "I can't" do something because surely to goodness I can't dance, but then again maybe I can.

"Create" was my word for 2010 and it started me blogging, sewing and knitting again.

This year my word is "simplify".

Enjoy your year of creating.

Hmmm, love this inspirational post. Love the Joy necklaces too! Can I have two words? I Can! I think those must be my words for this year. Exclamation mark included ;-)

Wishing you a wonderful, happy, successful and creative new year.

Love it! Perfect word for such a creative person. Mine this year is "grace". The past two years it was "excellence".

My word last year was Joy too! So glad you found yours :) Create sounds like a world of opportunity. Can't wait to see what you find. I think my word this year is ... courage.

Last year my word was balance. This year the one that keeps coming up for me is clarity. I love the idea of a word for the year.

I'm a resolution kind of girl. I like the inner reflection it fosters, but I know most people don't go for it. But I think choosing a word brings the same kind of reflection, and "unwind" seems perfect for me. Last year one of my resolutions was to lighten up. I think "unwind" suggests the same thing, and I could still use a little unwinding - still wrapped a little too tight if you know what I mean. So "unwind" it is for me! This was fun.

"Dance!" Except, you know, in the metaphorical sense. Because the literal is not pretty.

You are such a treat, Pam. I think create is the perfect word.

Unfortunately I think my word for the year will be "no". I've said yes to everything for way too long.

I love your word - it fits right in with what I want to accomplish this year. I went back and forth between two others but kept coming back to create. I hope you don't mind sharing!

Would I be cheating if I picked "grill"?

I followed your lead for this year Pam and chose a word.

I like your "create" ~ so many possibilities!!!

Pam, send me your address and I have something for you that will fit perfectly! It's not jewelery, but it is part of the theme.

I remember your post last year, and am so glad you followed up! I'm giving it a try this year, since you have inspired me (thank you so much!), and my word will be "kindness."

I hope that next year I can say it was successful and also want to keep going.
