Cutting Teeth: A Novel
tells the story of a weekend getaway for a mommy playdate group.  This mommy playdate group has every possible mommy you could imagine  There is the hot, sexy mommy, the OCD terrified something is going to go wrong mommy, the lesbian mommies and even a stay-at-home-dad “mommy.”  Like the mommies, the children also cover the range of possibilities from bossy and spoiled to one on the autism spectrum.  It’s like the author set out to make sure she covered all the bases.  It’s sounds contrived, but it really isn’t.  The characters are well thought out and rise above any stereotypes.

I particularly found the stay-at-home dad an interesting character.  He loves staying at home.  He loves being with his son Hank, and he wants another baby.  It was so interesting seeing it from his point of view.  I think we can all agree that being pregnant and delivering a baby are a lot harder than the man’s job in the “having a baby” – so he has to convince his wife to go through this again.

The weekend together progresses with all the drama that you might expect from putting several parents and their children together for the weekend.  There some particularly tense moments and I found myself unable to put it down.

It held my interest the entire time and I thought the ending was cleverly done.

Putting a group of people together is always tricky; adding their children can make it out of control. Sounds like a wonderful book!
