These Boston Baked Beans are full of flavor! Topped with bacon and onions they are perfect for your next barbecue. Just the right amount of sweetness and so easy to make!
Easy Baked Beans Recipe
I loved baked beans. They are the one constant whenever I have take out barbecue. Rarely do I make them at home, because I thought they were difficult. Then I remembered this recipe that I first made back in 2012!
I remembered that it was easy. It was ready in about an hour and 20 minutes. Best of all, it was delicious!
Now, I know there are baked bean recipes that have you start with dried beans and just the right fat back. This is not that recipe. This is a recipe that uses canned beans, some simple pantry ingredients and onion and bacon to make an easy baked beans recipe.
My kind of easy baked beans!
Ingredients to Make These Baked Beans with Bacon
Navy Beans - you need 3 cans.
Molasses - unsulfured. I use Plantation Organic.
Ketchup.
Dijon Mustard - don't use regular mustard, you want that kick of Dijon.
Onion.
Bacon.
Salt and Pepper.
How to Make Homemade Baked Beans
Like I mentioned above this recipe is crazy easy and so good!
Preheat the oven to 375.
In a bowl mix together the molasses, ketchup and mustard. Drain and rinse the beans and add them to the bowl along with some salt and pepper and stir to combine.
Scoop the bean mixture into a 2 to 3 quart casserole dish that has a cover. I used a vintage one, but this Blue Casserole would be nice!
Halve a large onion lengthwise and then slice it in ¼ inch slices. Scatter those over the top of the beans.
Cut four slices of bacon in half crosswise and lay them over the top.
Bake covered for 30 minutes then uncover and bake 30 to 40 minutes more or until the bacon is as crispy as you'd like.
Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving. Stir well before serving to mix in all the bacon and onions!
Delicious Boston Baked Beans
We love this recipe! I love that it's so easy and my husband loves how delicious it is! It has such depth of flavor for such few ingredients!
It's not over sweet and the bacon and onions add flavor and texture.
If you want it a little sweeter you could add a tablespoon of brown sugar, but we like that it's not super sweet.
I found this recipe in Everyday Food: Fresh Flavor Fast and it could not have been easier. I was of course completely lured in by the bacon on the top.

I dont eat bacon (i know, I'm a weird Southerner) but this sounds tasty. I've never made them, mom always uses pork and beans. I cheat, buy baked beans, put them in a casserole dish, heat them up and pretend I'm fabulous. 😉
