    The Best Margarita Recipe Ever

I celebrate all the major holidays - including National Margarita Day.

Wait...what?  It's not considered a major holiday?  Well, it should be because nothing else delivers like a perfectly prepared margarita.  I'll take margaritas in almost any form, but once I discovered these blood orange margaritas, I knew I had a favorite.

Oh, I don't like to play favorites - with my children or my margaritas.  But c'mon, you know that one child that is just a teensy bit higher up on your list?  This margarita is that child.

So smooth.  So crisp.  So perfect.

    Ingredients in the Margarita Recipe

Tequila - you want to use a good quality white tequila.

Salt - for rimming the glass.

Blood Orange Juice - freshly squeezed.  Buy oranges when they're in season and freeze the juice in ice cube trays.

Lime Juice - fresh squeezed, save lime wedge for running along the edge of glass.

Simple Syrup - equal parts water and sugar heated until sugar dissolves.  Store in refrigerator for about a month.

Cointreau - or Triple Sec or my Homemade Orange Liqueur also works.  Some people only use cointreau in margaritas, while I prefer it's flavor if sipping straight or in a cocktail where the cointreau flavor would be more forward, in a margarita I am fine with a less expensive liqueur.

Steps for Making a Blood Orange Margarita

Steps 1 and 2 -  juice your blood oranges. It's easiest using a citrus press, we use a commercial juicer and while it's an investment up front, we've had it for 6 years and we still love it!   Gather the rest of your ingredients:  lime juice, tequila, orange liqueur, salt, and simple syrup.

Steps 3 and 4 - Run a lime wedge along the rim of your glasses and dip in salt to coat the rim.  Add tequila to a cocktail shaker.

Steps 5 and 6 - Add blood orange juice and lime juice to cocktail shaker.

Steps 7 and 8 - add orange liqueur to cocktail shaker and then add ice.

Steps 9 and 10 - place lid on cocktail shaker and shake for about 20 seconds.

Steps 11 and 12 - pour into cocktail glass and garnish with a blood orange slice.

Steps 11 and 12 - pouring into cocktail glass and garnishing with blood orange slice.

That's it, that's all there is to making this delicious cocktail!

    Blood Orange Cocktails

Blood orange season is fleeting.  I wait all year for it and then enjoy every single sip of this margarita.  I also enjoy this Blood Orange Whiskey Sour.  I'm thinking I need to come up with blood orange gin and tonic, what do you think?

Probably my favorite margarita of all...though I have never quite understood Margarita Day in winter. Unless someone in Australia started it!

I had no idea that so many bloggers were celebrating margarita day! I love anything flavored with blood oranges, so this would probably be my favorite too if I tried a lot of margarita recipes. Though I probably won't get to it this year.
