This Gin Mojito is a riff on a mojito cocktail featuring gin and sherry! So delicious and so refreshing! This lower alcohol cocktail is perfect for a summer cocktail, make a batch for your next cookout!
Low Alcohol Summer Cocktails
I am all about lower alcohol cocktails in the summer. Low alcohol means you can drink more as you sit around the grill waiting for the hamburgers and hot dogs. What's even better than one cocktail is when you can enjoy two or three!
I have two favorite low alcohol cocktails (and plan on making more!) - this Gin Mojito and the pretty Sloe Gin Collins.
Gin Mojito
I first made this cocktail back in 2015 on my other blog after finding it in Imbibe Magazine courtesy of Gracy Ramierez from Dominick's in Los Angeles. They called it the B-Side Hit and that's what I called it too. The problem is that name, even though I love it, doesn't give anyone any idea of what the cocktail is about.
I thought about the basics of the cocktail and tried to determine the closest cocktail that you all would recognize and came up with a mojito.
A mojito cocktail is made up of rum, sugar, lime juice, sparkling water and mint.
This Gin Mojito is made up of gin and sherry, sugar, lime and lemon juice, sparkling water, and mint.
Pretty similar, so I don't think I am too far off base calling this a Gin Mojito.
Sherry Cocktails
This is my first cocktail on the blog featuring sherry! The recipe calls for a Fino Sherry. The word Fino means "refined" and it is the driest and palest of the sherries. Do not use a sherry cooking wine found in the grocery store, you really want a nice sherry for this.
After tasting how amazing this cocktail is, you can bet there will be more sherry cocktails in my future.
The Best Summer Cocktail
We loved this refreshing gin cocktail! It was light, but filled with brightness from the lemon and lime juice. The mint made it even more refreshing and gave it an even bigger summer feel. My mint is already growing like crazy so there will be a lot of these cocktails in our future!
Some easy variations for this Gin Mojito: use Spicy Cucumber Gin for a little kick, Lavender Infused Gin would add a floral touch and I think Thyme Simple Syrup would add another herby component.

I am a mojito person while my husband is a G&T person. I guess this would make us both happy. I just need to get myself some sherry, that's one ingredient I'm missing.
