Classic Daiquiri vs. Hemingway Daiquiri
Let's just start out by saying that I love daiquiris. There is nothing I enjoy more than sitting on my back porch sipping the Best Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri, or a Floridita Daiquiri.
When I think of daiquiris, I think of Papa Hemingway. He knew his way around cocktails and was quoted as saying,“Don’t bother with churches, government buildings or city squares. If you want to know about a culture, spend a night in its bars.”
A classic daiquiri is made with rum, lime juice and simple syrup. A Hemingway Daiquiri is made with rum, lime juice, grapefruit juice, and maraschino liqueur. Without the simple syrup and the addition of the grapefruit juice and the maraschino liqueur, the Hemingway Daiquiri is less sweet, and many people prefer it!
Hemingway Daiquiri
While all of the Hemingway Daiquiris that I found contained the same ingredients, some recipes varied the amounts and ratios. I looked through my extensive cocktail book collection and found one in Savory Cocktails: Sour Spicy Herbal Umami Bitter Smoky Rich Strong from Greg Henry. I have followed his blog, Sippity Sup for as long as I can remember.
In the book, Greg notes that it has been said that Hemingway followed a “12-a-day rule.” Well, when the daiquiri tastes this good, I can see why! I had to stop myself at 2! So good and refreshing!
Perfect for sipping out on the porch in the summer or curled up on the couch watching The Game of Thrones and trying to pretend you understand what is going on.
To make this easy cocktail you'll need a cocktail shaker, measuring glass, strainer and a cocktail glass.
