With just a few minutes of time and a few herbs you can make the most amazing herbed bread crumbs.   Use them in any recipe that calls for bread crumbs and easily add that wow factor!

Bowl of herbed bread crumbs with a food processor in the background.

I was watching Wolfgang Puck make a tilapia recipe. He coated the tilapia with herbed bread crumbs and baked it.

I made that Herb Crusted Tilapia and immediately realized that the breadcrumbs were amazing.

The recipe made plenty of bread crumbs and I've been using them everywhere that I would use regular bread crumbs! They are so good and so versatile.

Besides the Herb Crusted Tilapia, I've made Herbed Parmesan Roasted Asparagus and I plan on remaking this Cauliflower Baked Risotto with the herbed bread crumbs on top!

    Ingredients

Bread Crumbs - I used panko because that was what I had in my pantry. You can also make fresh bread crumbs or use regular.

Parsley - a good mild herb that goes with everything. You could make these using only parsley if you wanted a mild herb flavor.

Chives - add a bit of onion flavor.

Thyme - another popular herb with a mild flavor.

Rosemary - this is a pretty strong herb, so you would want to use less of it if you didn't want it's flavor to over power. On the other hand if you were making a rosemary chicken and wanted more flavor use more!

Tarragon - I love this herb, especially with fish or chicken.

Other herbs - this is really up to you. Play with different herbs. Make smaller batches. What about sage with crusted pork chops?

Spices - you could also add spices to make more of a seasoned bread crumbs. I don't add salt and pepper as I prefer to salt and pepper whatever I am cooking and then add the bread crumbs on top.

    Directions

Place your bread crumbs in the bowl of your food processor.

Roughly chop your herbs and add them.

Pulse until the herbs are finely and evenly chopped.

This is my new favorite recipe on the blog! These herbed bread crumbs are so useful and versatile! They add just the right amount of flavor to anything you use them on.

I plan on making a chicken parmesan using basil and oregano in the breadcrumbs.

    Pin these for later!

Such a great idea!! Never thought to make this, but it makes so much sense. Of course we should coat our fish in herbed bread crumbs instead of plain old boring breadcrumbs?!

What a brilliant idea Pam. Though I don't make any meat dishes, I still need breadcrumbs for some patties and veggies that I make. Flavorful breadcrumbs would definitely add so much more flavour to them. Like the idea of making a batch to store.
