    Patchouli in the Basil

LAST UPDATED: August 11, 2019 PUBLISHED: August 16, 2019 By Pam Greer 22 Comments As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Black and white cat in an herb garden.

Every morning Patchouli helps me with my gardening tasks.  Since we both hate heat, we work quickly and efficiently and then head back inside!

This year in my herb garden I did things a little differently.  I laid pavers down and put newly bought herbs in pots.   The pavers also allowed me to plant a few extra tomato plants in pots.

You can see Patchouli sitting on one level, she is right next to the basil.  Behind her are some tomato plants and in front of her is thyme and chives.

Black and white cat surrounded by herbs and tomatoes in pots.

It turns out that it was a fantastic idea to use pots instead of planting in the ground.  We have hardly had any rain this summer and the pots allows me to keep the tomatoes and herbs well watered.

It takes about twenty minutes or so and several fill ups, but I can easily go around with my watering can and water all my pots.  I find it much easier to keep a pot of basil watered than a whole section of basil in the herb bed.

I will definitely do it again next year.

It's been a horribly hot week this week, and while I don't like rushing things, I am soooo ready for fall!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

For my artsy photo, I used Topaz Labs plugin.

Aw, Patchouli is adorable in basil or not. You're a whiz with a camera too.

After the hot day yesterday, I'm ready for fall too.

She's such a beauty 🙂 Our cat Fluffy also enjoys "gardening" with us.
Great idea to keep your herbs in pots to make it easier for watering.

Patchouli looks great in those photos. Love the touch the red berries add to the photo too.

Don't pots make a difference? I have an Astilbe that works perfectly because it likes its feet in water (so it sits in a deep saucer! so I can agree 100% that your Basil and Tomatoes will thrive in spite of the heat.

As for Patchouli, isn't she just a gem, her fur is simply gorgeous and she looks as if she owns the garden!

That's a great idea on the astilbe. Mine isn't doing so well, maybe I need to put it in a pot!

Hi Patchouli, you look very thoughtful among the basil. The mom thinks that pots are a purrfect solution to gardening too, now if we can just get her to start gardening.... mol.

      That is a stunning picture!

It's cooler here for us but that's normal in the UK. I'm hoping we don't get another heatwave like we had last month.

Hope it cools down for you too.

Your artsy image really floats our boat this week, a wonderful and heady mix of colours, and scents that we wish we could smell but can only sense in the picture.

Using pots is a smart idea for a hot summer, I'll have to give it a try. Patchouli is so beautiful in the beautiful garden today - have a great week all.

I'm not a gardener. Too much of it when I was a kid. Burned me out. lol I admire people who do it though. The pot thing does sound more like it to me though.

Love the shots of Patchouli. Such a beauty.

I can't wait for fall either!
