Such complex flavors with the gin, vermouth, and orange liqueur in this Satan’s Whiskers Cocktail.
This easy gin cocktail is a classic for a reason!
So many cocktails, so little time! It seems like every day I discover a new-to-me classic cocktail that I've never tried or heard of.
Sure, we've all heard of a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned.
Like this Satan's Whiskers Cocktail. Funny name, delicious cocktail!
This is an easy gin cocktail featuring vermouth and orange liqueur. You definitely need to put it on your list to try!
This cocktail dates back to at least 1930 when it appeared in Harry Craddock's book The Savory Cocktail.
There are actually two versions of this cocktail one is called "straight" and the other "curled." The "curled" version uses orange curacao and the "straight" version uses Grand Marnier.
If you're curious about the differences between orange curacao and Grand Marnier, this article The Serious Eats Field Guide to Orange Liqueur tells you everything you ever wanted to know about orange liqueurs!
I chose to use my homemade orange liqueur.
This cocktail is also considered "perfect" meaning that it has equal parts dry and sweet vermouth!

You know I love a good cocktail, and this one sounds so interesting. I love a great orange flavor, and I have to admit your homemade orange liqueur sounds so intriguing and one that I may have to pursue. I am totally with you on the so far away from 12 bottles book, LOL! I have more bottles than I know what to do with! Cheers to this fabulous cocktail!

Yes, you would love this one!

I need more cocktails in my life for sure. This does sound so good - ideal for the end of a busy week - I love the fruity flavours. Love the idea of the 12 bottle bar too - all that scope for a relatively small outlay to get started.

I love cocktails when I have everything.... like this one and I love the name of it too!!! Although I can totally relate to having a zillion bottles of things we've used once or twice, but I chalk it up to being an adult and getting to enjoy the FUN things in life! 🙂

I love the name of this cocktail, how fun! This book sounds like a really fun addition to a cookbook library, I'll have to check it out. I'm guilty of the same specialty-aisle habits at the liquor store! I started out with just a few bottles and now the cabinet is overflowing. It's fun to play around with making new cocktails, though!

No space for all of the bottles! What a great problem to have 😉 I love the name of this cocktail and it sounds so delicious!

I'm laughing so hard at "made-up job"! Clearly you have the best made-up job around becuase making cocktails and taking photos of them seems pretty fantastic! It's awesome you make your own orange liqueur, I'll have to look that up - I'm sure it's so much tastier than store-bought!

I love citrus, really! This looks amazing, both the ingredients and the color. I do the same thing when perusing the aisles at the liquor store. Anything I have never heard of before makes me really curious. I usually end up going home with more than was on my mental list. Cheers!

I enjoy a real cocktail every once in a while, but I usually gravitate toward a glass of wine, mostly because I know how much liquor is in it and can moderate my intake... Whereas with a cocktail, after 2 or (gulp) 3 I'm pretty much doomed to an aching brain and fuzzy mouth the next day. But maybe just one....

The drink looks perfect for our upcoming bachelorette party!
