Pear Crisp with Oats

You won't miss all the extra butter and sugar in this lighter version! A crispy oat topping on top of tender juicy pears!

Ingredients

  • 4 pears peeled, cored and sliced
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon optional
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

For the Topping:

  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp butter cut into 1/4 to 1/2 inch cubes
  • pinch salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • In a bowl toss peeled, cored, and sliced pears with the brown sugar, lemon juice and optional cinnamon. Place in a low sided gratin type casserole dish.
  • Place the flour, oats, brown sugar, a pinch of salt and the butter in the bowl. Using your fingers, work the butter through the other ingredients until a coarse crumb forms. Sprinkle this over the top of the pears.
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  • Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Can substitute apples for the pears.
