Ginger Syrup for Homemade Ginger Ale

Homemade Ginger Ale is so easy with the Ginger Syrup.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 6 inch piece of gingerroot sliced into thin strips
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger

Instructions

  • In a medium pot combine the water, ginger and sugar and over high heat, bring to a boil.  Whisk in the ground ginger.  Reduce the heat to medium or medium low and let simmer, until is is reduced by half, about 10 minutes.  (Mine took longer). 
  • Take off the heat and strain out the ginger pieces either with a slotted spoon or through a strainer. 
  • Let the syrup cool and refrigerate covered for up to 5 days.
  • To make ginger ale:  Stir 3 tablespoons of the ginger syrup (or to taste), into 1 cup of seltzer.
  • Makes 1 cup

Notes

This is also good stirred into tea and it's great for cocktails!
