    Solomon's Seal | Garden Tuesday

LAST UPDATED: September 23, 2024 PUBLISHED: May 5, 2015 By Pam Greer 12 Comments As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

    Solomon's Seal

I don't know what kind of winter we had specifically, but whatever kind it was, the solomon's seal loved it!  This beautiful graceful plant has spread itself all over our flower beds.  The tall stems bow over gently weight of the tiny little flower buds.   I started in out in my herb bed and it took over it's little spot.  Then it showed up a couple of beds over, it moved along when we transplanted some plants.  Pretty soon it was in four beds and in our woods!

    Solomon's Seal

If you are looking for a lovely shade loving plant, this is one for you.  It's deer resistant and pairs beautifully with other shade loving plants.  The plant doesn't require deadheading, the small flowers drop off naturally.    Their roots (or rhizomes) or large and knotty looking - almost reminding me of ginger root, but without the skin.  They have large circular scars at intervals and that is where it gets it's name Solomon's Seal.

    Solomon's Seal

It is considered a medicinal herb, but I only grow it for it's beauty.  If you are interested in learning more about it's other uses, here are a couple of sites:  Solomon's Seal Herb Uses and  Solomon's Seal About the Plant.

I'll have to take some more photos when the buds have opened up.  The white flowers are so sweet and delicate.   In the fall it's leaves turn bright golden yellow, making this plant attractive from spring through fall!

I've always wondered what that plant looked like. I'm making a quilt block called Solomon's Temple - it's green too (well, sort of).

Lovely pictures! I'm so glad it's spring! I've been planting like crazy, it's just so nice to be outside again. Although, I could do without the snakes... and wasps ๐Ÿ™‚
