    Pileated Woodpecker for Garden Tuesday

LAST UPDATED: February 1, 2019 PUBLISHED: February 24, 2015 By Pam Greer 7 Comments As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

    Pileated woodpecker

We get a lot of downy woodpeckers on our suet, but we rarely see the big guys, the pileated woodpeckers.  So, when we do, I go a little overboard with the photos.  These were shot through my kitchen window with not the best of zooms, but still it was a pileated woodpecker!

To give you an idea of how big he is, below is a regular downy woodpecker on some same-sized suet!

    Pretty big difference!!

That's quite an impressive head dress. I don't think we have woodpeckers here.

Shooting through your window with a less than desirable zoom? These are amazing!! I can't even imagine anything better with a clear shot with an awesome zoom! Great photos, Pam!!

He's a fine looking bird! I've only ever seen one woodpecker outside my house, and I have no idea what kind he was.

Great shot! We get the Downy, Red-bellied and Red-headed, but we've yet to see a Pileated.

Wow! Awesome pictures of that big fella. I was tromping around the woods the other day when I came face to face with one. If I'd had my camera, I would have got some awesome pictures. I kicked myself all the way home 🙂
