    Rose of Sharon

A few photos of our Rose of Sharon.

    Double blossom rose of sharon

When we first moved into our house, we were looking for someway to hedge in our backyard.  We didn't really want to put up a fence, so settled on planting a sort of hedge.  In one of those really cheap garden catalogs, I found a deal for 24 Rose of Sharon plants for something like $9.99.  They arrived and looked pathetic.  It was just a bunch of twigs, really.  Having our doubts, we still planted them in a line on each side of our yard.

Fast forward about 20 years and we now have huge gorgeous trees filled with bright pink double blossoms.   While the flowers are absolutely beautiful, they weren't really what I wanted.  What I wanted was the single blossoms that I associated with Rose of Sharon.

Thanks to Proven Winners, I now have my Rose of Sharon - Orchid Satin.  Isn't it gorgeous!!  I absolutely love it!  It's a soft pale pink color with a deeper pink center.  I've planted it up in the front of my yard, it's replacing a butterfly bush that was long past it's prime.

What lovely colors to see each day--even if they weren't what you wanted.

I have one Rose of Sharon. There were more when we got here, but they must have gotten cut down. Yours are very pretty.

Ah, the latter is what I have, the kind of Rose of Sharon that looks reminiscent of hibiscus. Mine are more of a medium pink with dark pink center. They are beautiful and I love it when the bumble bees and butterflies visit them!
