    Iris, Lavender and Speedwell

LAST UPDATED: January 31, 2019 PUBLISHED: May 30, 2016 By Pam Greer 11 Comments As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

    Purple Iris

Just in time with the Memorial Day weekend, it seems that summer has officially arrived.  We are hot, humid and not a rain drop in sight.  I have already had to run the sprinklers twice.  If there is one thing about gardening I hate, it is running the sprinklers.  No matter how many times I do it, it takes me forever to get it right.  Trying to hit as much of the flowers as possible, trying not to waste too much on the driveway or street.  I always end up getting it in the face at least once.  The neighbors on both sides of us have automatic sprinkler systems.  To say I am envious, would be putting it entirely too mildly.

I just walked around and snapped a few pics of what's blooming right now.  The irises are just finishing up.  These lovely deep purple colored ones are my favorites.

    Lavender

One of my favorite things to grow is lavender.  I used to have it in my herb bed in the backyard, but it didn't seem to like it there.  I've moved it to my sidewalk bed in the front yard and it loves it!!  I'm probably going to by a few more plants.  I would love to have it lining the bed on both sides.

    Speedwell and Missouri primrose

Do you have a favorite garden color combination?  Mine is pink and purple.  I love it, so soothing.  This speedwell is about finished, but it looks lovely next to the pink Missouri primrose.

    Pink roses

Last but not least are my pink fairy roses.  These were just a mass of color this year.  But it seems as quickly as they opened, they dried up.  It's just so hot and dry.

In my school run here I always see Irises near the seafront and I am just in awe. They are still there but not much longer to live but they are pretty whatever state they are!

Here in Northern California it was the same - Memorial Day weekend was the first weekend in the nineties! Love
your capture of the iris. Since I live in the forest on the mountain no one has sprinklers here (it would take too high of a water bill!) Have a great weekend:)

You have lovely flowers in your garden and a great eye for taking photos. I wish I had a sprinkler system too. We had one years ago when we lived in California but not here.

Beautiful! I brought some Iris' back from Texas and planted them in our yard. Some survived, while others didn't. Can't wait for them to bloom.

Such pretty blooms. Winter arrived for us last week (early and after a late running summer - autumn lasted about 3 days!). Cold and crisp but we really do need some rain. The garden is looking very shabby.
