    Mailbox Flower Bed

Do you have a mailbox flower bed?  When we first moved into our home, there wasn't one.  The previous owners had done nothing to the landscaping.   The house sat with some bushes in front of it and no other flower beds anywhere.  That had to change!  I started with the mailbox.  There is something so sad about a mailbox standing alone down at the end of your driveway or sidewalk.  It just screams, "Put a flower bed around me?"  Or, maybe that's just me.  I'll put a flower bed around anything.  I'll even put a flower bed around nothing.  After doing our mailbox flower bed, I decided the corner at the other end of the yard looked sad and empty, so I made a small corner bed about the same size as our mailbox flower bed.

If your mailbox is like our, a large brick column, then at the very least, I suggest placing a pot on top with some pretty flowers.  These Calibrachoa are my favorite for use in the mailbox pot.  This particular variety is from Proven Winners and it is Superbells Hollywood Star Calibrachoa.   If you follow that link, you'll see that they are not yet released to the public, they are "professionally released."  Yes, Proven Winners considers me a professional gardener.  As soon as you finish laughing, you can check out my spring planting post, where I showed everything I received this year.    Even though this particular Calibrachoa is not available yet, check out their other varieties, I highly recommend any of their Calibrachoa!

The other secret to my mailbox flower bed?  Ground cover roses!  This ground cover rose is called "The Fairy."  It makes a dense round bush and then spreads all along the ground.  If you grow it by something vertical, it will start to trail over it.  It's almost like a climbing rose except that the flowers are very small and the leave are small and very dense.  I love it.

I hope this isn't a repeat but wasn't sure my comment took so I may be doing this twice. I love the way you have dressed up your mailbox. Beautiful flowers :). Thank you for linking with Today's Flowers 🙂

I like your mailbox flowers a lot! Ours is out on the road (we are a rural route) so I can't 'decorate' it with flowers but I do see some nicely groomed mailboxes on my drives about the countryside.

I love that your mailbox comes with a red flag. Does the flag tell you there is mail? I was under the impression that to send mail you can leave it in your mailbox, raise the red flag and the postman will collect it from the box. Is that correct?

Yes, we leave mail in the mailbox and raise the flag, that way the mailtruck knows to stop there. How do you all do it?
