Hardy Cyclamen, Birds and Other Randomness

    Tufted titmouse on bird feeder

Just a few random photos from my garden.  We are in the middle of a drought and it seems that I spend all my time rotating my sprinklers around the yard.  Many people have given up and their yard is all shades of brown.  I keep hoping that we will get out of this pattern and the drought will end.  We aren't at the level of other places, like California, but we are down 15" of rain so far this year.  It's been a horrible, hot dry summer and I am ready for rain and cooler temps.

I put apple cores out under the bird feeders for the squirrels and happened to glance out and see this guy having a little nibble.  I wonder about all the small creatures like this, where do they find water?  Do they learn what yards have sprinklers?

    Hardy Cyclamen

I've talked about hardy cyclamen before.  This is such an interesting plant.  It lies dormant all summer and then at the start of fall, these delicate purple flowers unfurl from the ground.  As the flowers die off, this winter, the leaves will sprout from the ground and stay like a ground cover all winter long.

Beautiful cyclamen and I love the turtle photo, that is great that he came for diner too. I am in Massachusetts and our rainfall is about 12 inches down, I just hope we don't make up for it with snow this winter.

We are down 5" of rain for this year, and finished last year down 5" of rain. OK, that's only 20% of normal, unlike California, but it's still pretty big. Love your random garden pictures!
