    Crepe Myrtles

Summer in the south means it's crepe myrtle time!

It's that time of the year in the south.  The time when crepe myrtles are blooming all over town.   I love crepe myrtles - they bloom in such a wide range of colors, there is definitely something for everyone.  They are one of the later blooming trees.  When we first moved into our house, we didn't know what kind of small shrub like tree was planted near our house.  That spring, while everything else turned bright green with new growth, our little tree stayed bare.  We were just about to remove it, thinking it was dead, when I noticed a few little baby leaves.  Pretty soon the tree was covered in leaves.  I liked it's large sprawling branches, but still didn't know what it was.   Pretty soon it was filled with heavy red blooms.

Now, of course, I can easily recognize a crepe myrtle.  The one pictured above is my neighbor's.  His a soft, medium pink and his blossoms are more light and airy than ours.

Wonderful shots, Pam. I used not like crepe myrtles particularly, but the last few years they have become a favourite.
Thank you for joining Floral Friday Fotos and I hope you can share some more of your flower photos soon.

One of my all time favourites - along with magnolias.

Beautiful photos of the crape myrtles! I love them, too. Our white one has bloomed, but the red one is still holding out on us. Stopped in from Maple Hill Hop.
