    Spring with Bradford Pears

LAST UPDATED: January 31, 2019 PUBLISHED: April 4, 2016 By Pam Greer 12 Comments As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

    Bradford Pears - spring blooming

Are Bradford Pears all the rage where you live?  Here in Southeastern Tennessee, I think everyone has one in their yard.  Well, except us, because we are rebels.  But seriously, they are everywhere.  They are in private yards, parks, they line streets in downtown Chattanooga.  It's like everyone has gone crazy for Bradford Pears.  I get it, they are gorgeous in the spring.  Big huge puffs of white every where you look.  I worry though whenever I see such a proliferation of one species of tree, about diseases.  If some disease comes through that kills Bradford Pears, we are going to look pretty bare around here.

    Yellow forsythia in the spring

Forsythia is another spring favorite, and again, one that we don't have in our yard!  I posted on Instagram that I have been known to sneak out after dark and snip a few of our neighbor's forsythia.  I hate to admit it, but when my girls were young, I enlisted their help in my night time trysts.  I would drive the van around, they would slide open the side door, hop out and snip a branch or two and then hop back in the van.  I always wondered what it would look like if we ever got pulled over for suspicious behavior.  Me and three little Vietnamese girls in a van filled with flowering branches and clipping shears.

My youngest daughter lives in Washington, DC now.  I wonder if she uses her early acquired skills to bring a few cherry blossom branches into her apartment?

I think I've seen the handiwork of your Australian cousin who took cuttings form all our roses, hydrangeas and weigela. Wonder if she also had a van with three Vietnamese girls inside? They were definitely in stealth mode. *chuckle*

Lovely shots, Pam. They look good, but the smell of the flowers can be quite putrid...

I have never ever seen a Bradford Pear in my whole life. Looks similar to the flowers that grow on bird-cherry trees at springtime.

I live not to far from your daughter on the other side of the mountain as the commuters say. Yes, Bradford pears are everywhere. I planted cherry trees. I don't know if it is just me but the pear trees smell after a while like dog vomit. Not that I have a dog or have followed the neighbors..... As for the Forsythia, I love those. They grow well in my area. I really enjoyed your photos. Thanks!
