Calico Kitten and Chinese Fringe Flower

Calico Kitten and Chinese Fringe Flower

Some of you may know that several years ago, I made a resolution to always have fresh flowers on my dining room table.  It was a New Year's Resolution that I felt that I could actually accomplish and enjoy accomplishing.  I only had to stop for a couple of months when Luxie was very little, because she would tip them over, drag them around, and basically ruin the calming, soothing effect of the flowers.  Now that she is older, I've started it back up again.  Oh, she immediately jumps up to check them out, maybe have a nibble or two, but with a "No" from me, she doesn't really bother them.

After reading about lilies being poisonous to cats.  I am now careful to check all of the flowers that I bring in.  Now that spring is here, or rather it was here, though tonight's freezing temperatures remind us that winter is still hanging around, I can stop buying grocery store bouquets and bring in flowers from my garden.  These flowers are from a large flowering shrub called a Chinese Fringe Flower.  It is a big, gorgeous shrub with a graceful arch and each branch is loaded with these hot pink fringe flowers.  It looks like fireworks in your yard.  It grows really big and Mr. Sidewalk Shoes is constantly bemoaning the fact that he planted it under our dining room window, meaning that if we actually want to look out the window, he has to keep it trimmed.  A lot.

Hope this doesn't offend, but Luxie outshines the flowers. She is such a beauty and SO photogenic. I have always been partial to Calicos. I have been lucky to be the mom of many calico kitties.

      The art shot is beautiful!

PepiSmartDog: stunning photos! So glad you mentioned a reminder for pals to be careful about certain plants. Calico is growing so fast - very beautiful!

What gorgeous photos of naughty Luxie! I love fresh flowers but am convinced that my naughty boys would eat whatever I would put out - and make themselves sick in the process!

What a wonderful resolution! And you're right: It seems like one that would both be rewarding AND easy to accomplish. And that's pretty darn rare! I may have to steal this idea for my own home. And thankfully, my cats just aren't all that interested in flowers. They like paper and tape (especially Popoki), but not flowers.

The arty photo is meowvolous. And those are really pretty flowers. Mom is not familiar with that shrub. She used to have fresh flowers all the time, but no matter how much she says, "no," she cannot keep Lisbeth out of them, and she gets tired of cleaning up after her. Luxie has grown up so quickly from a adorable kitten into a most gorgeous cat. Thanks for hopping. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

She is gorgeous!! I know you are being careful but there are many, many flowers that are poisonous to cats (not just lilies)...I had posted a list of them a week or so ago...................I don't bring in any live plants because there are just too many that aren't safe. Regardless, she is a gorgeous cat!

Luxie is so pretty. I am glad you check for poisonous ones before you bring them in. I know all kinds of lilies are especially bad.

Very pretty! We can't have real flowers in the house because some cat (Wally!) tries to eat them...and even if they're not poinsonous, he manages to knock the vase over and make a big mess. The few times we do have real flowers, the mom has to put the vase in a spot that Wally can't get to it.
