Speaking in Bones by Kathy Reichs

A review of Speaking in Bones by Kathy Reichs.

Speaking in Bones by Kathy Reichs

I went through a phase of reading every sing one of Kathy Reichs books as they came out.  Then it just became a case of too many books, too little time and her’s were one of the series that I set aside.  But when I saw the latest Speaking in Bones: A Novel (Temperance Brennan), I decided to give it a go.  I am so glad I did.  This book reminded me of everything I loved about Kathy Reichs books.  They are the perfect blend of suspense, forensics, romance, and just life in general.

The story opens with “Lucky” Strike letting Temperance listen to a tape of a young girl.   A young girl who is obviously in pain and sobbing.  We hear her voice and we hear the voices of two men.  At this point we learn that Lucky is a part of a group that does "Websleauthing.”  Webseluths are amateurs who compete online to solve cold cases.   As a huge fan of true crime, I found the whole websreuthing thing fascinating - and had to go look it up on the web.  They really do exist.   Of course, Temperance doesn’t hold them in that high of a regard - calling them wannabe forensic scientists and cops.  Lucky believes that the voice they are listening to is Cora Teague.  The only problem is that Cora Teague was never reported missing.  Lucky believes that she is and that there are some of her remains are already in evidence.

From that point on the story grabs you and never lets you go.  I stayed up late reading, unable to put it down.  Plenty of twists and turns.

I received a copy of the book for review.  All opinions are my own.

I have not read any of her books, but the fact that a successful TV show was made from her works is impressive enough.
