Coco and Luxie Try Instinct® Raw #InstinctRaw

I know that today is normally a foodie recipe day, but I'm going to talk about a different kind of food.  Cat food.  More specifically Nature's Variety Instinct® Raw cat food.  Most of you know that I drive clear across town to buy organic food for my family.  I am all for eating what we should eat and not eating what we shouldn't.  We don't eat processed foods filled with all kinds of ingredients we don't need, so why should our cats?

I was beyond thrilled when I was given the opportunity to try Instinct Raw Cat Food.  You immediately know it's different because it's in the frozen food section at Petsmart.  We decided to try the chicken and the rabbit, they were sold out of duck and tuna or we would have definitely given them a try too!

In order to document our kitties reaction, I decided to plop a bag down in the foyer and wait and see what happened.  Hopefully something would happen quickly, since it was frozen.  I barely got myself into position, when Luxie discovered the bag.  She was immediately enthralled.  I think she was impressed that it's 95% meat, organs and bones, 5% fruits and vegetables and 0% grain!  She was especially pleased to note that some of it's benefits are a healthy skin and coat, optimal digestion, healthy teeth and gums, relief from food sensitivities, and ideal body weight.

She was seriously trying to get that bag open, so I thought I'd better intervene.  Upon reading the back, I learned that you just scoop it out into a bowl and it thaws within minutes.  You can feed Instinct Raw plain or mix it with kibble or canned food.  There is a transition period of about 7 to 14 days, each time you give a little more raw and a little less of the traditional food.  If you are wondering about how much to feed they have a feed guide.  You can also learn more about the safety and quality of the product - quality and safety.

I opened the bag and placed a little in a bowl.  Noting that it is raw food, I was careful to wash my hands.  I placed the food out there and waited, not sure how this was going to go.  My cats are finicky.  Seriously finicky.  To me the food sounded fabulous, like something they would love.  Real food, real ingredients.

Coco wandered in and started eating it.  She loved it!  But then trouble arrived in a tiny package.

I believe Luxie is saying, "Hey, I saw it first, get your paws off it!"

You can see who was the victor in that battle!  This was a huge success.  They loved it!  I love it.  A food I can feel good about giving my cats.  Then I decided to try it with our stray/feral cat.  He probably kept himself alive eating raw food for most of his life.  Just this week, we have managed to get him to come up on the porch to eat.  With that big accomplishment, we decided to formally name him.  Winston Purrchill, is his official moniker.  He is still very skittish, but I wanted to see if I could get him to come up on the porch and eat with me there with my camera.

The bait has been set.

Winston loved it!  He loved it so much, he stood there staring at me like he was waiting for more, instead of dashing immediately away like he normally does.   Not only did he not run away, he sat by our door staring in, waiting for me to bring him more!
