When I look back on our earlier photos of Luxie, I am just amazed at how much she has grown. While she is still a kitten, I am starting to see signs of her cat face, a more mature face. She is a very long and lanky kitty cat. I think it's even more pronounced because she has the shortest coat I've ever seen on a cat. She has no fluff. You know how skinny your kitties look like when they get a bath? Well, that's what she looks like all the time.
We're still not letting her go outside, so she doesn't have any need to get a heavy winter coat. I'm considering the idea of keeping her an inside cat. All of our kitties have been indoor/outdoor cats and we do have a screened in back porch that they can get to through a cat door, however I do worry about them when they are outside. We are going through way more litter than we used to, but she'd probably be a healthier kitty if she stayed indoors. I do think she gets bored. I work downstairs and take a break every 30 minutes and go upstairs. She gets so excited to see me and follows me all around. So, she would have more to amuse herself with if she went outside. So, I don't know!
Opinions? Cats indoors or out?

My kitty is an indoor-outdoor cat although more indoor than out. It saves on litter for sure. Also he is a little older so that when he goes outside its not for very long and I always make sure he comes in to sleep with me at night. I think that the more they go out the more independent they become and they are less attached to their humans. For instance, because he goes out, he doesn't appreciate toys and doesn't really know how to bat a ball or bunny-kick a mousie. Play with her and she won't get bored staying inside. I wish my cat would never go out even though I trust him to stay home.
His brother was so overly friendly to anyone who walked by that he followed someone onto a busy street and got hit by a car. We really miss him! So, if you can, keep her with you. She can be just as happy with you playing with her and teaching her how to play with toys on her own when you can't.

She is a little sweetie. Keep her indoors. She will live longer. Hopefully outside nothing will ever happen but we cannot predict what is outdoors. You will always know where she is. I lost a cat to a car and that did it for me.

I don't know that much about cats but I will say this - her coat and markings are exquisite. If she stayed indoors couldn't she be entertained with those scratch posts and such? If I ever got a cat, I'd like to create a corner of the family room as its personal garden, huge tree branches to resemble the backyard for her to climb and rest upon. But I live with non-cat people so all I'll ever do is dream.... LOL Best wishes as you make your decision.

I'm totally for keeping cats indoors! There are so many bad things that happen to cats outside. From cars to racoons to cruel humans to fighting with other cats....it's just not worth it.
Luxie is gorgeous. It is fun to see how they mature, isn't it? Their faces and bodies really do change so much.

Luxie is so beautiful, I love these photos! My calico kitty Maggie looked just like her and had the same thin, totally non fluffy coat. She went OTRB about 2 years ago at the age of neary 19! She was mainly an indoor cat. It's a common belief in the shelter world that cats are best kept indoors and that indoor cats are healthier and live longer. Some shelters will even deny an adoption if you don't agree to keep the cat you adopt as an indoor cat! You mentioned a screened in porch, that sounds ideal. She can feel like she's experiencing the outdoors while staying safe.

Our cat is indoor by necessity. We live in an RV and I do not trust that he will find his way back if he ever really ran. It is a challenge to keep him in at times so leash walking and taking him on the kayak does keep the need to run at bay. At times he will still do anything to get out of the house to catch that squirrel. He was born a barn cat and lived indoor/outdoor for the first year of his life. There are benefits to both methods, you must find what works for you.

Luxie is absolutely gorgeous! My opinion is that cats should stay indoors. There are far too many potential dangers for them outside, especially during the winter. Cats are perfectly happy living indoors as long as they are provided with toys, scratchers, hiding places and other enrichments.

She looks gorgeous. If you DO go the indoor cat way - make sure you read up abut it first. They become a bit more high maintenance - need more attention - BUT this might be just whst you need and can provide. I hold my breath every time ours go ut - but they ARE outdoor born and bread and I can't keep them all indoors.

What a beautiful cat! For us, only indoors! Outdoors is so dangerous. In Germany, our one cat was a rescue and had to be let out as he would mess in the house if he wasn't let out but we lived in a rural area, so it wasn't too unsafe. He moved with us to the US. He went out often, but stayed close to our yard. One evening he went out and never returned. We never saw him again, have no idea what happened to him, it still upsets my mom. Because of that, no cat will ever be outdoors for us again.

First off we must again tell Luxie how absolutely gorgeous she is. Second, inside PLEASE! All our past kitties have been inside/outside and the oldest three (Lily Olivia, Mauricio and Misty May) have those privilege. The other five do not! We have a large "catio," and those five seem to be quite content with that. They are still outside, but they are confined. We have several bird feeders close by and we also have squirrels, so they get lots of entertainment. Extra litter is a small price to pay to keep this lovely girl safe. She is beautiful. Please keep her indoors. I lost a kitty to the neighbors dogs when she jumped in their back yard. I have had indoor cats ever since.

In our part of Florida, all cats and dogs are required to be on a leash when outdoors. I suspect this is due to some bureaucrat fearing unattended animals will become food for alligators and coyotes. And while it is true that this has been known to happen, I think dogs have an advantage because they can get around the law by using a pat door to access a fenced in back yard .... cats don't have that advantage because it is well known that they are excellent climbers.
I don't know what would be best for Luxie, but does she ever go out on a leash?

No, she doesn't go out on a leash. She hasn't been outside since the day she was rescued from a car engine.

Her face is absolutely gorgeous. I don't think I would let her go out if she could end up anywhere. I would be afriad someone would pick her up and take her home...maybe you could take her downstairs with you a couple days a week, you know, sort of a change of scenery...

She is gorgeous. I am all for indoor only, I worry about predators, cars, poisons and so many other things. She won't be bored, get a wand toy and play with her every day even for a short time. You could also set up a bird feeder so she can watch bird TV 🙂

Our cats are indoor cats. But I have friends who live in the country whose cats are indoor/outdoor, so I guess you just have to decide for yourself. Sorry to be no help ...
