A review of Try Not to Breathe by Holly Seddon. Post may contain affiliate links.
The main character of Try Not to Breathe is Alex Dale. Alex is an alcoholic. She has ruined her marriage, her career, and pretty much her life with her drinking. Desperate to keep her bills paid and to get her writing career back on track, she starts working on a piece about patients who are in comas, but who show brain activity. During the research for her story, she meets Amy Stevenson.
About 15 years ago, Amy went missing. She was found several days later, barely alive. She never recovered to tell what happened to her. Alex starts researching Alex’s story. When she meets one of the volunteers who sit with the patients to talk to them and keep them company, she finds that he has even more to offer her about what happened.
The narration is told between three characters and it works very well. We even hear from Amy, who struggles to figure out what’s going on.
There is a lot going on in this book, and it’s all good. The mystery is solid. The steps that Alex goes through to manage her alcoholism are frightening and fascinating.

Having a close friend who struggles with alcoholism, and treats said struggle with great humor, I think this would be a hard book to read. But your review makes me want to give it a try!
BTW, your page loads very slowly; maybe there is some setting which is not right?
