2016 Sentobene - a 100% Primitivo Wine
If you are anything like us, you may have never even heard of the Primitivo Grape, much less an actual 100% Primitivo Wine. According to Wine Awesomeness, even though you may have never heard of the primitivo grape, you have most likely tried it. The dark-skinned Primitivo is an Italian grape known for producing deeply pigmented, high tannin, high-alcohol wines. And guess what? You probably know it by it's name in the states - Zinfandel! Now if you do some research, you'll find some interesting articles about Primitivo and Zinfandel - Primitvo Vs. Zinfandel from WineGeeks or Aren't Primitivo and Zinfandel the Same Grape from Wine Spectator. It turns out they are both clones from the same grape!
2016 Sentobene, 100% Primitivo, Puglia, Italy, Wine Awesomeness. They say: On the nose, blackberries, blueberries, ad dark cherries. A velvety and elegant mouthfeel and layer upon layer of dark fruit. There are hints of spices and figs. It is intense and deep ruby red in color. Full aromas of plum, red fruit jam, black cherry and hints of sweet spices. It is full-bodied with a warm and soft flavor that reflects a highly mature fruitiness. It has pleasantly complex sweet tannins. It pairs extremely well with grilled red meats, roasted lamb and mature cheese. We say: fruity. Lots going on. Jammy red fruit, red licorice, black cherry and hint of cocoa on the finish. Really enjoyed it!
