    Coco and the Frosty Morning

"Woke up it was a frosty morning...."  sung to the tune of Chelsea Morning by Joni Mitchell.

Coco is not too sure what o make of the frosty car.  It makes traveling up the window a little more tricky for her!

So, we had our first taste of winer.  A bit early.  I dragged all my terra cotta pots under the porch, so they wouldn't freeze and crack.

Normally at this time, I take down the hummingbird feeder, but we have a straggler that seems to be hanging around!  I looked out yesterday  morning and he was trying to drink frozen nectar!

I ran outside with a second feeder full of food and switched it out.  Luckily we've stayed above freezing last night and today.  It was around again all day today.  It's a big fluffy rufous, which we don't see much of at our house.  We had ruby throated all summer long.

I'm hoping that he's just passing through.  I don't want to worry all winter long about trying to keep his food from freezing and worrying about him freezing.

Anyone have a hummingbird over winter in a colder area?

Coco has her work cut out for her, but she'll manage I'm sure. She's a beautiful kitty.

We feed our birds year around. It can get cold here, but not all that bad. No snow here, but there can be a handful of days there is a freeze.

Hoping your little hummingbird friend will be okay, but as others have said, I do hope he flies to warmer areas soon!
Also, very cute pic of Coco! Although winter can be quite beautiful, my kitty is more of a fan of the warmer weather (and so am I)

We are much too far north for a hummer to stick around!
Am hoping some of the native Michigan plants and flowers that we've put in will attract hummers in the coming years.

Sorry to be so late, I am prepping for a craft fair and got all behind. I LOVE the photos! They really made me smile. Our cats would be exactly the same!

Your artwork this week really adds an extra dimension to and improves the colours loads.
Alas no such exotic birds pass through our way, but plenty of the boring grey and brown natives to chase and feed.

Coco, did you ever make it up that window? Summer stayed late this year and winter came too, too early. If we are lucky we see one or two hummingbirds in the summer, but never in the winter. Let us know what happens, and keep those toesies warm, Coco. Thanks for being a regular hopper. Coco is so cute trying to figure out that frost.

I, for one, am enjoying the colder weather. We sweltered for so long this year.

How quickly the weather changed for you! I remember when you were saying it was way too hot.

It's quite cold here in England too but no snow - just rain.

I love these photos of Coco being frustrated by the icy windscreen! In the last one it looks as if she has decided to leap up onto the roof of the car. Love the artsy effect too.
