Our backyard is made up of two parts, a lawn part and a wooded part. It's not quite half and half with there being a little more lawn. The previous owners apparently didn't want to deal with the wooded part, so they put a privacy fence. Well, more like a privacy wall since it was just a wall of fence separating the lawn from the woods. There wasn't even an opening. It was weird. One of the first things we did (and by we, I mean my husband), was to turn that fence into a picket fence. A white picket fence with an opening into the wooded area. This kept the area divided and gave me a back drop for a flower bed. One of the first things I planted was coral red honeysuckle.
These photos were taken in April when it was doing it's first set of blooming. It's much fuller now, I'll have to go and grab some newer photos to show you. I love the red color, and so do the hummingbirds. It lacks the fragrance of a traditional honeysuckle, but it makes up for it by being very well behaved.
Do you grow honeysuckle? Have you tried coral red honeysuckle?
