Garden Tuesday ~The Layout of the Land

LAST UPDATED: January 29, 2019 PUBLISHED: June 10, 2014 By Pam Greer 13 Comments As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

    Back Yard #gardening #picketfence

I happened to think the other day that we post a lot of photos of our gardens.  They are usually this plant or that plant, or a specific bed.  We rarely see the whole yard to put it all into perspective.  So, I thought I would pretend that you all really, really, really are dying to know what my whole yard looks like.   Above is the left side of the far side of my backyard.  When we bought the house, the previous owners had put a privacy fence to hide the woods (why??), so using the wood, we (and that's the royal we - I'll let you imagine how much I helped) turned it into a picket fence.  Now the picket fence divides our lawn and beds from the small woods.

    Backyard picket fence #gardening #picketfence

This is the right side of the far side of our back yard.  It is a little more heavily shaded than the left.  So it holds the columbine, astilbes, oakleaf hydrangea, foam flower, wild ginger, and a rhododendron.

    Screened in porch

Now, I am standing right between those two picket fences and looking back up at the house.  My herb bed is on the right.  That screened in porch is where all the hard work for Weekend Wine Reviews takes place.

    Sidewalk flower bed

This is the sidewalk leading up to my house.  On the right is the bed that I refer to as my sidewalk bed.  It is filled with perennials and weeds!

    Flower bed

Here is a slightly wider view of the sidewalk bed.  You can see the catmint walker's low blooming and the Missouri evening primrose.

    White two-story house

And now, we have stepped all the way around to the front of the house!  Can you see the petunias on the porch rail, that is always one of first signs of summer!

I hope I haven't bored you to tears with my putting it all into perspective post.  I would love it if you would do the same next week!  I'd love to see all your beds and the big picture.

It's every bit as picturesque as I had imagined. Right down to the achingly adorable clap-board home. Thank you for sharing your little corner of paradise with us.

Definitely not boring! I loved your garden tour. Making a note to do the same once I have a few spare moments.

Your home, garden, and woodlands are gorgeous!! I totally agree why would anyone hide the woods? This week I had to watch as our neighbors cut down 3 beautiful pine trees because they didn't like the needles. One was taller than their home!

There is a lot of the "royal we" going on around here, too. It's the natural order of things. You have a very nice yard, and I really love your back porch!

Linky won't work for me now. I'll try again later.

Thank you for hosting the party. You have a lovely yard and landscaping. I love that white picket fence - it makes everything look so "cottage-ish"! (is that a word?) 🙂

      Hi Pam!

What a great idea to show us your little corner of the world and your fantabulous gardens!!! I have a habit of only showing individual flowers most times but seeing your gardens in perspective is a bouquet of beauty! Thank you so much for sharing, Pam. I'll be back to linking to Garden Tuesday very soon:)
