    Iris, Blueberries, and Coral Bells

    Blueberries

I am so hoping that we have a good crop of blueberries this year.  Two years ago we had an amazing crop.  It seemed like everyday I went out and picked bowlfuls.  It was crazy.  We couldn't keep up and ended up freezing lots of them.  Last year?  Totally different story.  I don't even think I harvested more that one or two bowlfuls.  The trees in our yard have grown up so much, that what was once sunny is now mostly shade.  The sunny areas of our yard shrink with each passing year.  While I love the tall old trees, so much of what I plant needs sun.  My blueberries and black berries are suffering, my herb bed is hit or miss and even the mint is struggling.  You know when mint is struggling that you're having serious sun issues!

Coral Bells Heucherella Fun and Games Leapfrog!

On the other hand, plants that like shade are flourishing!  Last year I planted this Heucherella Fun and Games Leapfrog  from Proven Winners. It is thriving.  Since I took this photo, it has even more stalks of delicate flowers!   You can see the ferns in the background.

    Iris

Even in the front yard, we struggle to find sun.  We have a hickory tree that has just grown huge in the 20+ years that we've lived in this house.  The only spots of sun are around the perimeter of the yard.  The bed by our mailbox gets a fairly decent amount of early morning and then late afternoon sun.  I've filled it with iris.

These are fantastic Pam. I have much more shade than sunshine growing areas. I will have to find them in that one sunny area and plant these. Thank you for sharing with Today's Flowers and have a great weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

Beautiful irises. Do you fertilize the blueberries? We use 7-7-7-blue and K-mag.
