    Japanese Magnolia | Garden Tuesday

LAST UPDATED: January 31, 2019 PUBLISHED: March 28, 2016 By Pam Greer 10 Comments As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

    Japanese Magnolia tree

I finally got some time to go walk around my neighborhood and get some photos of all the trees in bloom.  All of the trees have blossomed, seemingly overnight!  My favorite flowering tree is this Japanese Magnolia in the yard of the neighbor across the street.  I would have loved to have it against a deep blue sky, where it literally pops, but unfortunately it was overcast and a little gray the morning I went walking.  I have always wondered what this tree was called.  If you google around, you will see that some people also call it a tulip tree, though if you go look at the information on the Tulip Tree, you'll see that it's different.

Whatever you want to call it, I call it gorgeous.  Usually this Japanese Magnolia tree is completely awash in blooms, but they are opening in phases this year.  Just a few days after I took these photos, there were even more blooms.  I might have to take another walk and get some newer photos.

There are two Japanese Magnolia trees that I pass on my way to the grocery store.  They are huge and were covered in blooms weeks before my neighbor's.  I'm not sure if it has to do with amount of sun or soil or maybe a slightly different variety.  I wanted desperately to pull over and snap some photos, but there was no safe place to stop.

Do you have any spring blooming trees in your yard?

Our azaleas are almost done and the wisteria has started. The crepe myrtles are beginning to green as well as the fruit trees. It won't be long before everything is a riot.,

I also never knew they are called Japanese Magnolias, thank you for that info! Your photos are a delight, you captured how delicate they look. No blooms here yet (I am in Michigan), but hopefully soon!
