When I first saw this woodpecker at our bird feeder, I thought it was some strange new woodpecker that we had never seen before. Then his mama or papa (both parents feed the young and are almost impossible to distinguish between - especially if you are me - and oh-so-pathetic in your bird identification skills) swooped into feed him and I saw their beautiful big red head! Yep, he is the juvenile of the red-headed woodpecker. We don't see many red-headed woodpeckers around here and to see a baby was really exciting!
The photos aren't that great because I took them through a window and my best zoom is only 300mm. But still it's a juvenile red-headed woodpecker!! Here is what it will look like when it grows up - Red-Headed Woodpecker.
A few more garden photos from the to-be edited archive:
This creeping St. John's Wort is a lovely golden color. You can see it having it's way with my sidewalk steps!
Another photo of the mystery little white flowers. Probably a weed, but I don't care.
How about you? Any garden photos to share?

I've never seen a juvenile woodpecker before, so cute! We have a lot of woodpeckers at our feeders this winter!
Thanks for hosting!

Too cute! I've got an overabundance of woodpeckers at my house, all kinds. Pileated, red headed, downy's. I actually used to think my gnatcatchers were woodpeckers because they walk up and down the tree, but turns out they are not. I just love birds 🙂
