Last Night at the Blue Angel by Rebecca Rotert

Last Night at the Blue Angel by Rebecca Rotert

I loved Last Night at the Blue Angel: A Novel (affiliate link) from beginning to end.

It is the story of relationships.  Primarily a mother/daughter relationship between Naomi Hill and her daughter Sophia.  But it’s more than just their relationship, it the relationships of the people that support them.  I was particularly moved by the relationship between Jim and Sophia.  Jim is not Sophia’s father, but his love for her mother and her is so selfless.

The story of Naomi and Sophia is told in alternating chapters from each viewpoint.  Naomi is a jazz singer waiting for her big break.  She is selfish and flawed, and through the stories of her childhood we learn what influenced her character today.  Sophia is her 10-year old daughter who has had to grow up way beyond her years.

This is a book that really makes you care about the characters.  I wanted to shake some sense into Naomi.  I wanted to hug Sophia and take care of her.  I wanted to be friends with Jim, my favorite character of the story.

    Loved it.

Jim was my favorite too. Sophia was simply so sweet and adorable, and I felt so bad for her.

The story does pull you right in.

      Thanks for a wonderful review.

Love your blog name and your blog. Very nice.

I love it when an author gets me so invested in the characters in a story. These women seem like they could walk right off the pages!

Thanks for being a part of the tour!
