When it's cold and drab outside, it's difficult to find photo inspiration. While I love all the gorgeous still life photos I see on blogs and Instagram, I can barely find time to take just regular photos, I definitely don't have time to gather things and artfully arrange them. One of my easy fall backs are my orchids. It seems like at any point in time at least one of them is blooming. You can see in the above photo, that two are blooming right now! As you can also see in the above photo, Luxie felt that I needed some help with the orchid photos. You can also see from the bits of soil around all the table, she checked to make sure that none of them needed watering for me.
A few years ago, I made the New Year's Resolution to always have fresh flowers on my dining room table. When we got Luxie, she liked nothing better than to grab the flowers and drag them out of their vases, usually tipping over the vases in the process. Since the dining room table is an antique and we have oil finished hardwood floors, that wasn't working. I've decided that she is probably ready to control herself with the flowers now. I bought a bouquet a couple of days ago and so far, so good.
I might even manage to use some of the fresh flowers in a still life! Of course, I'm sure I'll have kitty cat help. For my artsy photo this week, I once again used the Topaz Labs Simplify Plugin.

These are beautiful pictures. I once decided to grow a herb garden in the balcony - it lasted a couple of days. My cat decided to destroy it completely 🙂

Luxie looks a delight, especially checking those Orchids. We just have African Violets here, which are zero risk for me, and in low pots away from where I tend to like to hang out or walk by. Usually I don't bother with such things but if there is a fly around, everything is at risk so I suspect they will move somewhere safe come summer, away from an open window. Have a lovely week. purrsERin

Luxie is a gorgeous kitty ... I love that black-ridged ear! I can't have flowers or plants because Bear refuses to leave them alone. The day I moved in here nine years ago, an azalea was waiting for me as a housewarming present. With all the hubbub, I put it in the windowsill and didn't think twice about it. The next morning everything was gone except for the pot and a pile of dirt. It wasn't until a few years later that I found out azaleas are toxic to cats ... I was very fortunate that Bear did not get sick. I just didn't know. Now, people know not to send me plants and flowers. The ASPCA's list is the one I reference most ... http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/cats-plant-list

Beautiful photos. The mom would love to have fresh flowers in the house but some cat (Wally!) always tried to eat them.
Mary McNeil says
Please be sure she doesn't chew on them !
Caren Gittleman says
The photos are stunning!! Are they Phalaenopsis Orchids? If so, they are non-toxic to cats, if they aren't I would keep a close eye on them and many other fresh flowers.
Colleen Delawder says
I'm so lucky that my crazy Brenna has never cared about flowers!🍀
Ellen Pilch says
Beautiful art and orchids. Of course, Luxie is the most beautiful of all. You are brave to have any flowers near her, I am afraid my cats would eat them so I only have them in the dining room.

We like the way it made her eyes pop. Mommy tried to grow an orchid but she failed miserably. We think they are really pretty. Some very small ones grow wild down here.
