Nandina, Nandina, Nandina | Garden Tuesday

LAST UPDATED: January 31, 2019 PUBLISHED: February 1, 2016 By Pam Greer 2 Comments As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

A few photos of my favorite shrub, Nandina in my Southeast Tennessee Garden.

Red berries on a nandina bush

I've said it before and I'll say it again, nandina is one of my favorite shrubs.  Nothing beats it for year round attractiveness.  It is also called heavenly bamboo, which may clue you into the fact that it can spread easily.  We started out with one bush and now have it dotted all over our yard.  It seems to grow just about any where we move it to.

Nandina - heavenly bamboo - new growth

It is an evergreen and keeps it's dark shining leaves all winter.  But what really makes it shine it is the reds of the new growth leaves.  They are spectacular.

In addition to the gorgeous red new growth on the leaves, it has bright red berries.  They look fantastic covered in snow, but I wouldn't know about that this year with the mild winter we've been having!

The neighbours used to have one which draped beautifully over my side fence. New owners cut it down. Mores the pity.

It's pretty in winter, and it's kind of like a tongue twister when you say it fast!
