    Orchids | Garden Tuesday

    Orchids

I have always thought that orchids were so pretty.  They looked so elegant.  I expected them to be difficult to grow.  One mother's day several years ago, my middle daughter surprised me with one.  I imagined that soon after blooming it would die, and that would be that.

Surprisingly enough after blooming, I cut off the stem and kept it watered.  Guess what?!  It bloomed again.  It's still blooming regularly now many years later.  I am now the proud owner of 4 orchid plants.   They all bloom regularly and never cease to amaze me with their beauty.

Mine were all picked up on impulse at the grocery store!  I can't walk by them without stopping to admire.  If you've been thinking about trying some, go ahead.  They aren't difficult, this book sounds pretty interesting, The Orchid Whisperer: Expert Secrets for Growing Beautiful Orchids.

I got an orchid for Christmas of 2014. The blooms lasted a long time, and it finally decided to grow one more leaf about 2 months ago. No more flowers, just long stalks and one new leaf.

So pretty! My poor garden is almost fried from the heat. The weeds are thriving however. Perhaps I can set a new trend?

They are beautiful. I have always heard they were difficult so I never tried to grow one.
