Since not much is going on in the garden this week, I thought I’d share Mr. Pileated Woodpecker with you. I wish I could show you how big he is. He doesn’t look that big on this tree, but when you see him next to other birds, then you can really see. He’s almost as big as a squirrel! His bright flash of red on his head is super visible in the dull brown colors of late winter.
They really love the suet that I put out. If you are wanting to attract woodpeckers to your yard, I highly recommend suet. They love the variety with nuts. Peanuts are their jam!
The limb on this tree broke off last year during a storm and they have been going crazy with it. I guess getting all the bugs that are feasting on the rotting tree.
