A review of Shäfer Dry Rosé 2015 for Weekend Wine Reviews #337.
Shäfer Dry Rosé 2015
Shäfer Dry Rosé 2015, Rheinhessen, Germany. Wine Awesomeness. They say: 100% Pinot Noir. This wine comes from Germany's most famous wine making region. This Rheinhessen rosé is as dry as it gets while still having excellent body and solid fruitiness. Grapes have been cultivated in this area since the days of the Romans, so these are some old vines. Even more of a bonus, this wine is made with organic grapes.
A glass of this makes you feel like you just came out of the cold ocean, after a long swim. It can perk up any dish. A ton of minerality like limestone, river rocks and spring water makes this almost a little too easy to drink. On the nose, wild strawberries, peach skin and a ton of minerality. It smells like springtime in the park. On the palate, juicy red berries mix with fresh mineral notes of spring water. Chalky limestone flavors make it incredibly zesty.
We say: Not over sweet. Lot of strawberry and lime with some lovely minerality.

We spent the summer here trialing various Rosés. The jury was out and we have agreed to continue the process next summer.
