Capsule Wardrobe Step 3 - Pick Your Accent Colors

I hope you are enjoying this Build a Capsule Wardrobe journey with me.  If you missed it, here are Building a Capsule Wardrobe Step 1 and Building a Capsule Wardrobe Step 2.  I have completed the first two steps:  purging my closet (oh how freeing!) and choosing my neutrals.  My wardrobe in the past has been all over the place, filled with random bits of this and that.   My new wardrobe is based around all neutrals:  black, white, gray, beige, and chambray.

At first, I was not planning on having an accent color.  I really loved the soothing way my neutrals worked together.  But while shopping one day at Marshalls, I saw the blush colored peplum top and I fell in love with it.  And, there you have it, my accent color would be blush.  Blush is almost a neutral itself and goes with every single thing in my capsule wardrobe.

In choosing your accent color, I suggest you look at your closet.  What colors have you been drawn to in the past?  Or maybe you want your accent color to be something trendy for the season.  Choose a few solid  and patterned tops and bottoms with your accent color.  So, by now you have purged your closet, have a set of neutral basics and now you have some pretty accent colors.  Aren’t you loving how it’s all coming together?!

    Clothes Shopping is So Easy!

Let me talk for a moment about how easy clothes shopping is now.  You know how you are always told not to go to the grocery store without a list or you come home with all kinds of impulse purchases.  The same holds true for clothes shopping!  With your capsule wardrobe, you can easily create a list.

A quick glance at your wardrobe can show you what you might be missing.  Maybe you need a long sleeve white top, or a dress that features your accent color.  Suddenly your clothes shopping has a purpose, you aren't flitting from one pretty thing to the next.  It is so freeing!

Very pretty blush top! I think that is the perfect color to add, as you mentioned it is a neutral itself and will lend itself to many styling options.

I love this capsule wardrobe series. It's very helpful! I have a relatively small wardrobe and it is very liberating.
