Take some Gentleman Jack Whiskey (or your favorite) some orange zest and a little time and you have amazing orange whiskey!
This orange infused whiskey gives every cocktail a hint of citrus!

We are big on infusing liquor at this house. I like to call it my hobby.
They are such an easy way to turn any simple cocktail into a craft cocktail. Time usually does most of the work for you.
Like this orange infused whiskey. With a little bit of work at the beginning, after just a couple of weeks you have this lovely orange whiskey.
It makes your whiskey cocktail just a little bit better.

Ingredients
Whiskey - use your favorite, we used Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack.
Oranges - since you are using the zest, try and find organic oranges. If you can't just be sure and scrub your oranges well before using.
Sugar and water - you can optionally make a simple syrup if you want the whiskey a little sweeter. (I didn't)

Instructions
Using a vegetable peeler, remove the zest from 2 oranges. Try not to get any of the pith (the white part) on the strips.

Place the orange zest in a mason jar.
Pour over the whiskey.
Note - I used a ratio of 2 oranges to 1 ยฝ cups of whiskey. If you want a stronger orange flavor you can use 4 oranges or let it age longer.

Store the whiskey in a cook dark place (I used a shelf in my pantry.) You can shake it every so often if you remember.
Begin tasting the whiskey at 1 week. Let it age until it reaches the desired strength.
I let mine age 2 weeks. It has a subtle orange flavor. If you want a stronger orange flavor, let it age longer.

When the desired orange flavor is reached, strain out the orange zest.
Optional - at this point you can make a simple syrup of ยฝ cup sugar and ยผ cup of water, by heating the water and sugar over low heat until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool and then add it to the whiskey.
I chose not to add a simple syrup, I already have a recipe for Orange Liqueur and I wasn't looking for another sweetened orange infusion.

Pour your orange flavored whiskey into a jar or bottle.
I like to keep mine in mason jars, makes for easy and inexpensive storage! If you are giving this as a gift, use a nice bottle, if you'd like.

Take your delightful orange whiskey and store it with all your other infusions and liqueurs.
Yes, that Ginger Whiskey is a hint for what's coming next!
Use this orange whiskey in any of your whiskey cocktails! It adds a soft, subtle orange flavor.

I love pairing orange with whiskey, though usually I just do a garnish. I'll have to try infusing it like this instead.
