Is your kitty cat eating it's dinner on a ho-hum store bought placemat? Do you want your kitty cat to feel special? Well, of course you do! You have come to the right place! Today I'm going to show you an easy DIY placemat that you can make for your kitty cat. (Note. You will like it so much, you'll have to make some for your human family too.)
Begin by gathering your supplies. You will need ½ yard each of two cotton fabrics, ½ yard of a stiff interfacing, and matching thread. I prewash my fabric before sewing so that shrinkage won't occur later. Matching bowls are optional 🙂
You'll want to press your fabric before you cut it out to make sure there are no major wrinkles.
Place the two pieces of fabric and and the interfacing on top of one another. Use a rotary cutter or scissors to cut a 14x20 rectangle. I had an old placemat that I used as a pattern to cut around. A rotary cutter with a cutting work makes this really easy, but scissors will work too, just measure and trace out the rectangle, pin it together in several places and cut it out.
Place the right sides of the fabric together with the interfacing on top. I place the interfacing on top because it makes the next step easier.
I wanted rounded corners so I measure 3 inches down on each side of the corner and made a mark. I then got a large soup bowl and laid it on top so that the edge of the bowl touched the 3 inch mark on all two sides. Trace around the edge of the bowl and cut out. Repeat for all four corners.
Pin around the edges of the placemat usually about 3 inches apart. You want to leave about a 5 inch opening for turning. To help me see quickly where to start and stop, I pin two pins close together. This shows me my opening. I start sewing at the one double pin and finish at the other. This keeps you from accidentally forgetting to leave an opening! Don't ask me how I determined that I really, really, really need this reminder of when to stop!
Using a ⅝ inch seam allowance, sew around the edge of the placemat. Starting at the double pins and finishing at the next set of double pins. You'll want to remove the pins as you sew. Some people sew over the pins, but I don't recommend it!
Using a rotary cutter or scissors trim around the edges, reducing it to about ¼ inch. Do not trim around the opening, you will need the full seam allowance when you fold it in to sew.
After you trim the edge, turn the placemat right side out through the opening. Reach in and push out the corners to round them. Fold the seam allowance under in the opening in and press around all of the edges.
Sew around the entire edge of the placemat, making sure the opening is folded in and gets closed with this seam. That's it! You're finished! You have just made your kitty cat an adorable placemat. Now what are you going to serve on your new placemat.... you need something that is really going to wow your kitty cat.
It turns out there are very easy #WaysToWow Coco! Four new ways actually: Fancy Feast Broths with Tuna, Chicken and Whitefish in a decadent creamy broth; Fancy Feast Broths with Chicken, Vegetables & Whitefish in a decadent silky broth; Fancy Feast Broths with Chicken & Vegetables in a decadent silky broth and Fancy Feast Broths with Chicken & Vegetables in a decadent creamy broth. Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner...well multiple winners!
It's no surprise that she loves them. The contain real, recognizable ingredients! Those real ingredients are served up in either a classic silky or creamy broth and they have no fillers or by-products. And as a kitty cat who likes to watch her waistline, she appreciates the perfectly portioned, ready-to-pour pouches.
You may get so excited about the new Fancy Feast broths that you just have to get matching bowls to have another #WaysToWow your kitty cat! Coco loved her #WaysToWow matching bowls and placemat! What a cool placemat. And it's a good thing it's washable since I like to pull my food out of my bowl and eat it on the ground. ~Ernie
