    The Hopefuls by Jennifer Close

    The Hopefuls by Jennifer Close

I chose the book The Hopefuls by Jennifer Close because it is set in Washington, DC.  My youngest daughter lives there and I was curious about the setting.  That being said, I don’t really have any idea if this is true to life or not.  Even if it’s not, it made for an interesting read.
The main characters are Beth and her husband Matt.  Matt was an Obama campaign staffer.   When Matt gets hired with the administration, they move from New York to DC.   They meet another young couple,  Ash and Jimmy.
The novel then chronicles the basic day to day goings on in Washington DC with these two couples.  That’s really all it is.
Still I enjoyed it, probably for the same reason I watch some reality tv shows.  Sometimes it just fun to watch how people in other settings live.  I would never want to be involved in it, but I find the whole political scene fascinating.
An enjoyable read, especially if you are interested in the political life in Washington, DC.
