I have always put Harlan Coben at the top of my list of mystery/thriller writers and with The Stranger, he stays firmly at the top.
The story opens with Adam Price meeting a stranger at a bar. Oh, lot’s of people meet strangers at bars, but most of them don’t tell you something that will change your life forever. The stranger opens the conversation with, “You didn’t have to stay with her.” At first Adam, doesn’t believe the stranger is talking to him, but as the stranger keeps talking, Adam realizes that unfortunately he is taking to him.
Who is this stranger telling Adam something about his personal life, so unsettling and life changing? Adam doesn’t believe him, but he can’t help looking into the things the stranger said.
Adam is not the only one the stranger confronts. He knows other life altering secrets about others too.
The story unfolds at an even pace, each chapter drawing you deeper and deeper into the weave of the stranger. Held my interest from beginning to end and I stayed up late reading into the night, having a hard time putting it down.
