It has been so hot and miserable for so long, we are all over it. Especially poor feral kitty Winston. He has gotten so thin, which I hope is just his shedding of his winter coat. I am also afraid thought that he is starting to show some age. I'm sure he hates this heat so much. I found him asleep on a little patch of concrete at the base of our porch steps. Since he is hard of hearing, I am able to sneak up fairly close to him without waking him up.
Later in the day, I found him up on our screened in porch, relaxing on the wicker chair. I'm sure being in the shade of the porch helps, plus laying on the wicker is probably cooler allowing some air to flow beneath him. Sometimes I just sit and talk to him, but I really don't know how much he hears. If he is not looking at me, I have to say his name very loudly or bang on something to get him to hear me. He will still let me touch his nose with my fingertip, but that's all.

Keep talking to Winston. Some part of him hears - some part of him knows. It matters for both of you that you do. As long as he has the shade you can give and plenty of water, maybe he will be OK.

Poor Winston! This heat wave has been tough on everyone experiencing it. I'm sure that the shade was a nice reprieve. A nice cool bowl of water would probably be a welcome thing too. He is a cutie!

I do so enjoy your Winston updates. Our cat once brought home a friend and the two of them became as thick as thieves. I can't imagine the scrapes and adventures they had but Got-some (as we called him) seemed to enjoy the company. One always thinks of cats as solitary creatures.
