    Foodie Resolutions 2016

    My Foodie Resolutions for 2016

I don't know what's going on this year (and yes, I realize it's only 4 days in), but I seem to be starting out very organized.  I'm working on my favorite hobby - making lists.  I decided that I wanted to make a list of Food Blog related tasks that I wanted to accomplish this year.  I hesitated on what to call it.  Is Foodie still a good term?  Are we through with Foodies?  Did I finally decide to make a Foodie Resolutions list and it's not even a thing anymore?

    Whatever.

I made a list.  Something to hold  me accountable.  Something to check off - my favorite thing in the world.  So, without further ado, my Foodie Resolutions 2016:

    1. Produce a food video.
    2. Make homemade pasta.
    3. Ferment sauerkraut.
    4. Make sausage.
    5. Bake a pie with homemade pie crust.
    6. Inventory pantry and freezers - and maintain!
    7. Make bagels.
    8. Use sourdough for something besides bread.
    9. Make homemade chile sauce.
    10. Purge cookbooks.
    11. Learn how to perfectly poach an egg.
    12. Create less food waste.

Let's chat about them, shall we.

Number one - I have a GoPro and a Sony Action Cam . I have no excuses.

Number two - I just had to have the KitchenAid Pasta Attachments - I bought them several years ago and have never even tried once!

Number three - I have something similar to this Fermenting Kit and I've never used it!  Again no excuses!

Number four - I have the KitchenAid Food Grinder and Sausage Stuffer attachment for my mixer.  Now, to be fair, I did use it, however it's probably been about 10 years ago!

Number five - I am terrified of pie crust.  Cold butter, ice water??  Must overcome fear.

Number six - I do this several times a year.  The reason I have to do it several times a year is that I don't maintain it.  So, I don't know if that 1 pound package of ground beef is still in there or not!

Number seven - because bagels are good.

Number eight - maybe bagels?  That way I could check off two boxes at once!

Number nine - I am perfectly happy with store bought chile sauce, but perhaps that's because I've never made my own!

Number ten - I'm on the fence about this one.  Hubs is all for it.  Me, not so sure.

Number eleven - practice, practice, practice.  Does anyone have these Silicone Egg Poachers or Egg Poacher Pan?  Do they work?  Does it make it easier?

Number twelve - really need to do this.  We compost our waste, so it's not as bad as if we were just throwing it in the garbage.  Even as I type this, I know there is liquified produce hanging out in the bottom of my produce drawer.

Love this post, Pam! My main foodie resolution is to finish writing my cookbook but actually, I like the idea of making a few more 🙂 Shared your post. Thank you for bringing it to the Hearth and Soul Hop. Happy New Year!

You're off to a great start for 2016!
I have the same fear of pie crusts; need a foolproof recipe that tastes amazing.
Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY!
      Blessings,

I could do a lot of these, but never to purge my cookbooks. I just keep adding more 🙂

That was mainly for my husband's benefit. It's soooo not going to happen!

I can help you with pie crust. I am pie-crust-phobic. But if you use my recipe and your food processor with the chopping blade, you can use room temperature butter and shortening, and get an excellent pie crust. My mother in law was a great pie baker, and her son, my husband, loves pie better than anything. But he says the recipe I found is the best pie crust he has ever had. So try it, you'll be surprised at how easy it is, and #5 will be off your list! As for bagels, I heard that the secret is that they have to be dropped in boiling water for a minute or 2 before baking. I'll just keep going to Abe's for them if I really have to have bagels. Great list, Pam. Mine begins something like "After the fire...." and goes on from there; I wish I could think as clearly as you're doing right now. Happy New Year!

Love your lists! My boys convinced me to make homemade pasta - it was yummy but messy. We tried recipes from Anne Burrell and Giada DeLaurentis. Loved Giada's - it was lighter.

My resolution is to try a new recipe each week with a new superfood and/or veggie.

And being a foodie will always be a thing at my house!

Good idea. I'm going to piggy back your list as I have already done some of those things in years past. That means I could check them off (get real, Ann, who are you kidding). Definitely want to make some filled pasta this year. We eat UFOs ( unidentified frozen objects) on a regular basis - they're called Surprise nights. No need to get fancy with poached eggs. Use a small pan, swirl the water, drop in the egg. No vinegar. No fancy equipment. Cooks and chefs have been poaching eggs quite successfully without the use of expensive silicon doo-dads for longer than anyone can remember. Wish I lived closer to the Jewish bakeries in Bondi, NSW. Best bagels in Australia. Might make jam instead of chili sauce.

Happy New Year-these are great resolutions. I have never made pasta and always wanted to-I have made a pie crust I am just not good at it. My mum was the best. The freezer list is great-lord only knows what is in the freezer and pantry.
